So we had a new shower fitted - 3 sides full panels, shower door, new tray. All looked very neat (albeit they did the job remarkably speedily).
6 months later and we've had a deluge of water through the ceiling beneath the shower - I assume it's weeped through and puddled, and once sufficiently big, poured through. On very close inspection of the tray-panel sealant strip, I can see the sealant's peeled slightly. Have pulled it away and there's a 15cm length where the panel is c.10mm short of the tray. The rest of the length it's a v small gap.Â
I'm guessing the sealant struggles to fill a sizeable gap.
Let's assume the shower fitter is now incommunicado and disappeared from the face of the world, is there any secondary sealing strip that I can fit. I have pulled all the sealant away, cleaned and re-sealed and it's not leaking through, altho, as before, it may well be puddling on the ceiling just waiting to pour through!
Cheers
Had the same thing. Had to get the whole lot replaced including floorboards.
Some plastic angle?
Just stick on with plenty of sealant...
First verify where the leak is. Use a bucket and an external water source to pour water down the waste. This will rule out the waste leaking. Fill the bucket from the shower to rule out that side of things. If both of those are fine then start trying the seals.Â
Ours was from a waste trap that hadn’t been tightened properly.
sounds more to me like a waste has come off. would enough water have gone thru the seal to bring a sealing down?

this..no point plastering more sealent on the top of the tray if it's leaking from the plug hole/pipe etc.

I realise if forgot to say when filling the bucket from the shower, empty it somewhere else
Good advice, thanks, will check the shower drain. Have checked the shower supply and that seems good.
I'd be looking at the waste as well. Different scenario for us but the very old waste cracked and started leaking. Took a long time to come through the ceiling, dissolved the plasterboard and eventually the paper surface failed.
