My Dad's vintage PC (Windows 2000, Athlon 2200) needs upgrading and as the family IT expert I've been nominated to spec a replacement. So, what cheapish barebones gear should I be looking for? How does something like this stack up for value?

Get a Dell, and pay for an extended warranty.

I bought that Ebuyer one...good value if you already have a copy of Windows. It is pretty (to very) loud when it's turned on - so much so that I'll be looking to change the power supply in an attempt to hush it a little.

A cheap Dell. Built umpteen PCs over the years it's just not worth the aggro. Go to DMX Dimension, find a good offer, and the built PC will cost less than the parts would.

Again, a cheap Dell. When it's my machine, I build it from scratch. For non tech family and friends, a Dell with three year onsite support. Sorted.
