I'm toying with the idea of replacing my Canon 400D soon and I stumbled upon these guys

http://slrhut.co.uk/contacts-index/

They have a UK address and a 600D is £20 cheaper than my usual online shop, One Stop Digital, who have ususally only been £10 more than secondhand prices on eBay for lenses!

I'm unsure of using OSD for a camera due to warranty etc, as they are based in Hong Kong, but it seems SLR Hut at least have a UK address

Your thoughts please

Try Kerso for cameras - He was doing 600D body only for £499 when I last asked. Google for Kerso and you;ll find him on many photography forums, or drop me a mail and I'll send you his latest price list and contact details

Kerso is £10 more than SLR hut then......

I got the link to SLR Hut from the bottom of this review on Ephotozine

but you stand a better chance of getting a camera...

You asked for thoughts. My thoughts are "I wouldn't touch that with a shitty stick". If you wanted people to say "looks great, go ahead and buy", I probably wouldn't have replied. But hey, it's your money.

Well, why didn't you say that in the first place then! 🙂

What about using OSD? I've always been impressed with them...... It's just the warranty thing I'm unsure about

ooops, my bad - thought I'd typed that in the first message!

BTW Kerso imports from the US to his folks in Scotland, so you are still getting imported gear - but he deals with import taxes etc. I've never had any problems with gear from him and have had UK receipts for Canon cashback and so on.

Edit - never used OSD. Have you looked at digital rev too?

I had a read through the threads you posted, and yes, whilst I agree the director isn't the most literate person in the world, I can't actually find anyone who's had a problem with them. It's all Americans getting their knickers in a twist! It's still imported stuff though, so for £10-£20 I'd still be tempted to go with OSD who I KNOW are superb......

Remember the Internet shopper's mantra; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

All my HK gear has come from Digital rev. I've spent thousnds with them and had no bother at all. I'm also on EPZ forum (as mentioned above) and know that Kerso is extremely well thought of....

I'd rather go with a known company and spend £10 more, than with an unknown.

Ahh £499 at Digital Rev.

Seems it's all much of a muchness. I'll have to see who's cheapest when I add a memory card and a spare battery, but OSD will price match.

Not trying to be patronising, but different companies do different things better than others.... 7dayshop for your spare batteries (their own brand are brilliant - better than the originals IMHO) and the same for your memory cards (but buy branded - Sandisk / Kingston are good). Or mymemory are also excellent for cards, and you can be pretty sure you're not getting dodgy copies (there's a lot of fakery going on with CF cards).

Enjoy the new toys!

Yeah, I think I've used 7 Day Shop before..... And Gadget Infinity

One numpty question:
If I'm buying the camera body, no lens, will it still come with a battery and charger? I assume so.......

That sounds about right to me, cheers.

Whats the difference between SDHC and SDXC? Just speed?

Ahh. Apparently not.

http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2402/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xMzE2NTEwNTY4L3NpZC9LeTJyc3lFaw%3D%3D

I'm also buying an iMac (I know, I know...!) which ois listed as havin an 'SDXC slot' so I might have to bite the bullet and get an SDXC if the camera will take it...

HC / XC is capacity - "Class" is the speed, although class only indicates the minimum sustained data transfer rate, there can be variations within a classas some cards are faster at reading and / or writing.

That Sandisk article is a bit misleading, I believe. I think they're erring on the side of caution.

You can use SDHC cards in SDXC slots; the hosts are backwards compatible.

You can't immediately use SDXC cards in SDHC slots; however, they are electrically compatible, so providing SDXC support on a SDHC slot (albeit at slower SDHC speeds) should theoretically just be a case of applying updated drivers or firmware. Of course, whether that software exists or ever will is a whole other barrel of monkeys.

The other thing to note about SDXC and SDHC is they dont work in normal/old SD slots or readers.

NBT, I've only just noticed that's a 550D you've linked to, not a 600D.
