Just finished 'Mr Inbetween' on Disney. Dark mixture of comedy and violence. One of those that makes you root for the antihero,

Graham Hancock’s second season of Ancient Civilisations. Fascinating. I’m not sure what to make of him though.

He’s shilled “alternative views” on archeology all his life and cried foul when he’s been pulled up on his utter bullshit but he’s made a good living out of courting utter idiots so he’s not going to change now.

Joe Rogan loves him, don’t go “bro rogan on facts”

In anticipation of The Mirror and the Light, i am rewatching Wolf Hall.

I see that Beeb4 have the same idea and are putting it out over the actual air waves.

It is just amazing. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Just finished Rivals on Disney – brilliant!

Only watched 3 eps so far, but agree it's brilliant fun. Like a sexy '80s panto.

We watched Green Room on Prime for a bit of horror, really tense and well-directed - with Patrick Stewart being surprisingly scary as a neo-nazi once you get used to it.

Oh and Generation Z on Chan 4 is Ben Wheatley’s new horror if you haven’t caught it.

haven't made it through the first episode of this yet! Total yawnfest. Does it ever get going? Plus, surely the whole zombie genre is played out now, so you've really got to bring something new to the table? This does not from what I can tell! Best moment was the unintentionally hilarious lorry crash at the start, special effects looked straight out of Thunderbirds 🙂

the whole zombie genre is played out now,

I've never been into zombie stuff but The Last of Us was really excellent.

Pretty funny, I enjoyed it. And they aren't zombies 😀 Just old people with a lust for young blood.

All Ben Wheatley stuff has an undercurrent of social commentary to it and you don’t have to be a psychologist to work this one out. Also lots of dark humour

I thought it was really good for a bit of blood and gore splatterfest nonsense and worth watching just to see Anita Dobson eat a dog

We smashed through Rivals in a week, loved it. On to Slow Horses next.

I've also heard good things about Presumed Innocent on Apple TV - anyone seen it?

@chakaping - Anita Dobson is absolutely fantastic in it. To say that she fully embraces the role of flesh (and dog) eating zombie would be massively understating things. She looks like she's having an absolute ball.

I think Mrs Binners is going to start a Disney+ subscription purely so we can watch Rivals. It does look good

At the opposite end of the spectrum we watched the first episode of 'Until I Kill You'on ITV last night and it's brilliant, but absolutely grim. Anna Maxwell-Martin is always fantastic in anything

Watched the first episode of Doctor Odyssey on Disney+ the other day. It's truly, truly appalling to the extent that it's actually really good. Think medical team on a luxury cruise ship  led by a new doctor who's a sort of poor man's George Clooney. Comedy cases. Ridiculous relationships. Preoposterous storylines and Shania Twain playing a glamorous granny in episode two.

I started watching it out of sheer disbelief at the concept, but now riveted by the ongoing insanity.

I think Mrs Binners is going to start a Disney+ subscription purely so we can watch Rivals. It does look good

Metaphorical fingers in ears. We signed up to watch The Bear. If you want a high culture rationalisation, that's the badger...

Watched and enjoyed A Man Called Otto over the weekend.

A little slow, but as a man of a similar age (who is also a little slow) pertinent observational humour and enjoyable watching

Came here to say exactly the same thing. Also - I read a lot of comments on facebook about how slow it is and how annoying her accent was. Which only goes to show how many idiots there are using Facebook.

I'm actually enjoying the throwaway escapism of Rivals.  I don't particularly like Tennant, but he plays his character well.  As as for Danny Dyer, this is possibly his best role ever!?

Danny Dyer was amazing in Rivals, you really want him to end up happy.

We also watched a Man Called Otto at the weekend, having seen the Swedish(?) Man Called Ove a couple of years ago. It's not bad; overly long and we thought Tom Hanks isn't quite dour enough for it, but it was definitely a bit dusty as we were watching it.

I sometimes like to take a punt of the many B-movies available on Prime, they're often (unintentionally!) entertaining, and because due to budget reasons they tend to be 90 mins (or less) like a proper movie, not some bloody 2.5-3 hr slog fest like everything else seems to be nowadays!

Started watching "Killer Weekend" (85 mins 🙂 ) last night (also known as "Fubar" apparently to avoid confusion with another film) and was pleasantly surprised to see Mark Heap's name on the credits. This'll be a cut above, I thought! Also features the late Keith from The Office, plus another chap I recognised from loads of stuff but don't know his name. I really enjoyed it, actually pretty funny & decent practical effects (possibly no CGI at all, which is worth bonus points in my book!) Nice twist on the zombie genre too 🙂

agreed, binge watched the first 4 episodes. It’s strange how you end up rooting for the ruthless murderer .

have you seen the trailer for his new film coming out next year . 100% NSFW ?

We enjoyed Hidden Figures (not Numbers) too.

Coincidentally my MiL was a computer programmer in a US govt research institute in the 1960s. Not NASA though.

Ruthless murderer Vs dodgy politician, tech billionaire and charmless amoral MI6 operative. Doesn't seem all that strange to me!

I'm a couple of episodes in and enjoying it, though the needle drops are achingly trendy and just a bit obtrusive.

An antidote for the overhype of Paul v Tyson, Stable: The Boxing Game on iPlayer was outstanding. About the Mcguigan family gym and his stable of championship fighters, four episodes and it’s my new favourite sports doc. 10/10 would highly recommend

Yeah, some of the musical choices are jarring and really don't fit with what is happening on screen. I too am rooting for the Jackal. He's a contract killer yet the most likeable character. I'm not overly keen on the usual 'working cop/spy's family don't understand the needs of the job' trope. Nor the whole Jackal family thing. Both just detract from the core plot.

It has likely been covered on previous pages but, The Penguin is a fantastic show, even if you're not a Batman fan.

I’m only 4 episodes in, but at the moment - not at all. So far it’s taking the odd scene/line here and there and plonking it in (almost Easter egg style), plus some general themes/characters. I can’t help laughing when “based on the Fredrick Forsyth novel” pops up every time, I thing “inspired by…” would be pushing it.

I’m really enjoying the music choices. Only jarring thing for me is why they chose to go with a total James Bond pastiche for the beginning credits.

Anyway it’s still great and you should watch it 🙂

Yes and no, it's like an expanded universe, really and keeps just a few of the names etc. Top quality cast, although it feels a little like someone has taken elements of Bond, Bourne and Spooks/Slow Horses and worked out how to squeeze them together. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, I'm four episodes in and it's working well.

I’m really enjoying the music choices.

Certainly this, loved the use of The Who in the last one I watched.

Does anyone watch the opening credits of anything any more? Especially given the Americans wanting to make them all about ten minutes long? Surely you just hit the 'skip intro' thing?

I've watched the 6 available episodes over the last week and its all very enjoyable preposterous nonsense

Pretty certain there’s no skip button watching it via Sky on demand. They are also very short as credits go.

You're right though. the opening credits couldn't be any more Bond, either visually or musically.

Yes I could fast forward. Now I'm intrigued about the ads though. Are you recording it or something? Can't you just select the lovely UHD/HDR on demand stream and avoid them completely - I might not have a skip button, but I definitely don't get ads!

You’re right though. the opening credits couldn’t be any more Bond, either visually or musically.

Yeah it's not just the music, the Alfa driving through the mountains next to the sea feels exactly the same shot as at the Aston driving through the mountains at the end of No Time To Die.

Series 2 of Bad Sisters has just come on Apple TV. That’s tonight’s viewing sorted. Series 1 was darkly funny genius! Absolutely brilliant! Sharon Horgan really is a top notch writer, but I think this is the best thing she’s done
