This City Is Ours on iPlayer. Got a couple of episodes left. Not exactly the most original idea, but scousers, drug dealers, feuds, pretty much all you need to know. But it's done well, some great tension building, if you liked Kin, then this should hit the spot.

One Night in Millstreet on Prime, a documentary about the first Steve Collins v Eubank fight in 1995, essential viewing if you enjoyed the golden age of British middleweight boxing in the 90s.

Some great boxing content on Prime at the moment, Four Kings was also really good

2nd episode in angola is a bloody unsettling watch, should come with a health warning.  dont say i didnt warn you😀

The trailer with the teeth bit was enough to put me off TBH, is there worse than that?

Talking of cast... penultimate ep of White Lotus: Scott Glenn as the old gangster geezer. Wow.

I'm getting some Darth Vader vs Luke Skywalker vibes off that meeting.

depends i spose.  bruce was asked to kill a goat by suffocation and it showed him doing it with the animal struggling.  think that happened twice.  then a tribe member came to circumcise the young kids and you could hear one screaming whilst the act was taking place.  thankfully didnt show it but it was unsettling enough to just imagine.

This. It's not great but it's better than a lot of the twaddle that gets recommended here. I love Diana, but I won't fight Michael for her !! 🙂

i think you should also give no3 a miss then, wish we had.  had to look away on a number of occasions.

dont think its even worth putting a spoiler in, its better to warn you.

EDIT:  probably best to play safe and do a spoiler.

Spoiler
the ritual chicken killing was almost small potatoes for what was to come later, really upsetting scenes of brutal buffalo slaughter.  seems that whenever anyone dies, you have to slaughter a buffalo so that the spirits are appeased.  who'd have thunk it eh?

and rather than doing it humanely, it would appear you have to do it brutally, almost like sport.  poor animals, a grim way to go.

been an awful couple of episodes, not enjoyed them at all.

On a lighter note...

Running Point, Netflix. Basketball based comedy with Kate Hudson.

"breezy if generic sitcom fare" said the Guardian - and yeah, it's brain off 30mins before bed telly. But fun.

Deadwind, a Finnish 'The Bridge'.

She ain't no Saga though..

There is only one Saga.

Best substitute was Clemence Poesy in The Tunnel.

New series of Black Snow on BBC. Really good Aussie missing person psych drama. If you’ve not seen series 1 start there. Stunning scenery as well.

Currently on the third series of Jack Irish on channel 4. It's really pretty good, sort of an Australian Minder/crime investigation type of thing. Guy Pearce is the main character, a sort of lawyer private investigator.

It's pretty funny, sweary and moderately violent. Some great characters in it

A confession, I started watching The Gorge last night. Stopped after 40 minutes to do the washing up. Nothing much happened, was basically an extended trailer. It has the plot of a nineties computer game. It's all the sci-fi horror tropes mashed together, served on a bed of sci-fi horror tropes, with a side of love story cheese.. You get the idea.

Spiderman Across the Spiderverse - I absolutely love Into the Spiderverse but never got round to seeing Across the Spiderverse.

I am 3/4 of the way through Across the Spiderverse now, had to stop watching simply because it was nearly 4.30am (don't ask).

Absolutely non-stop fantastic. Loving it. So much background detail, too! I'm going to have to watch it again just so I can pause it every few seconds to study the screen 😂

I almost stood up and applauded when they did the "You! You! You!" meme 🤣

Ack. After trying Brassic based on the recommendations above, and giving up pretty quickly, we tried Mr Inbetween based on the recommendations above. To be fair it gets 8.5 on IMDb, but I think we're going to drop it. There's not much humour for a so-called comedy drama...

Flipping through Amazon Prime the other night for some brain-out TV, it recommended (based on stuff I've seen previously) a film called Gunner.

All I can say is if this film ever shows up in your recommendations, delete it immediately.

It's beyond terrible. I mean, I sort of hung in there through it thinking it might / could get better but it didn't and it's not even so bad it's good. It's just bad bad.

I just hate the Amazon prime streamer, the home page thing is diabolical, and because i watched a single good WW2 film, it does nothing but recommend WW2 films, of which 90% are absolute crud, the algorithm on there is terrible.

At the bleeding edge of TV viewing, I've just started watching... The Sopranos. Six episodes in I can't say I'm gripped yet. Is it a slow burner, or am I broken?

Part of the problem that a lot of older series have is that they do give themselves longer to build the world and the characters, and these days we're used to stuff that instantly tries to hook us in. Other examples include The Wire, Mad Men etc. These days Band of Brothers would skip the training and waiting episodes, and stick us straight onto the beach in Normandy.

Sopranos is absolutely worth it, but yes, it takes a while to build up, and lets you get to know Tony and his family and crew beforehand.

Those are the other two biggies we've done in the last few years. I can't remember it taking this amount of time to get hooked with those, which is why I was starting to get worried!

The Wire hooks you pretty quickly. One other problem with The Sopranos is I don't think it's aged so well. It's still good TV, but it's definitely a slice of late 90s/ early 00s New Joisey that doesn't feel quite so relevant now

When it was released, it was absolutely groundbreaking. I just rewatched it a few months ago, it's still excellent TV but everyone else has copied what it did and now it seems like just another good TV show.

Over the weekend I finally watched Rye Lane on Disney+. Lovely film, like a modern London version of When Harry Met Sally.

Also watching Last One Laughing and... it's good but patchy, I'd say. E2, excellent. E3, not so much; and I think it's cause it splits into funny comedians (Sara Pascoe, Rob Beckett, Bob Mortimer) and "funny" comedians (Joe Whatsit, the one in the blue dress, Richard Ayoade). Like the other comedians are cracking up as they do some lame effort, but I just don't get it

No mention of the new Black Mirror series appearing on Netflix? First ep is brilliant.

Then found out my partner hadn't watched ANY Black Mirror, so we went back to Ep1, Series 1 - the Pig molesting PM. So good. Should keep us occupied for a few weeks going through all 7 series!

I need to be in the right mood for that having seen the start last week, but definitely one to watch.

Can't wait for Andor - distinct lack of brain out action entertainment at the moment.

North of North on netflix as an amusing 30 minute filler for people who love in/near artic circle shows, people and landscapes (contains an actress from the last True Detective and 12 Pines).

Resident alien - I'm watching but not recommending, I like how Alan Tudyk manages to look like someone wearing a human, but there are few other odd things that just don't quite gel together about it, the acceptance of how odd he is from the nurse, the Sheriff is just plain odd.

A real pain, enjoyed it and thought Kieran Culkin was excellent, aided by a great writer/director/main actor. The featurette on the making after was interesting too.

It's a comedy. The characters are supposed to be oddballs. I thought it was quite amusing, probably not everyone's cup of tea.

Reminds me - Im doing the bandersnatch interactive movie from that series. Just started so only made a couple of choices(opted for Frosties) But despite the great series, and unusual format, I feel its going to drag on a bit

I enjoyed the first series alot, but I'm not sure I want to watch the second series and sully it. I watched ep1 of s2, it's like the original writers were given the heave ho and whole new load brought in. The sheriff has got all sweary all of a sudden and the mayor and his wife have developed a kink. Which is a bit cringe. Plus the lake by the cabin went very obviously green screen. Hmmm.

yep but skipped that and went straight to the retro 90's computer game one 😂 (which was awesome)

I watched the first couple of episodes; it was OK and I could probably happily carry on watching it - but I won't! Too much good telly, too little time, it does not make the cut unfortunately!! Would agree he's well cast though.

Watched the end of White Lotus - compelling TV as usual, although not quite as good as the first two seasons I think.

mrsZilog is watching the latest season of Handmaid's Tale, she's enjoying it. It never really grabbed me so I'm not bothering, strange as I normally really like post-apocalyptic/society breakdown etc stuff.

The second season of The Last of Us started on Sky yesterday. Essentially just setting up the charachters and plot for the rest of the story but a good episode. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with the main event which takes place early in the game.

I've also watched most of the new Black Mirror now, some really good episodes but not really breaking any new ground.

And ends up where you fear it's heading.  Brooker at his best.

Apparently there are two versions of Bête Noir in circulation with subtle differences.

I enjoyed daredevill born again this week on disney+, apart from the fact that they have blatantly spilt a single season into two and aren't releasing the second half until next year.

We enjoyed it. Important to remember that it’s not a documentary. Funny line when Michael and Diane are in the pool -

Her - oh I’m getting horny

Him - I’ve got a lump in my trunks

Her - front or back ?

The Nightingale has recently gone up for free. It was on my mind for days after seeing it at the cinema.

Hope this doesn't break the forum. I'll delete it if it does:
