Ozark season 4 👍
The Fable
Two feature length films/episodes, get the order right, lots of really well observed detail as well as great action and comedy
I'm a little late to the party, but I'm two episodes into Squid Game.
I'm utterly hooked so far.
Hmm, I tried it (Squid Game), but the terrible over-acting really got on my nerves. As did the dull method of dispatching contestants.
Ozark season 4 👍
the show where every character is a ****. yay go ****s
the show where every character is a *. yay go *
You may want to steer well clear of Succession then. 😃
The fact that they’re all absolutely vile human beings is the whole point, surely? Embrace it!
3 episodes into series 4 of Ozark and it’s superb!
Munich - Edge of War is a pretty good watch.
C4 recommendation - don't like the name, but found "Killer Nanny, did she do it?" pretty interesting.
About the Louise Woodward trial. I didn't pay close attention when it was actually happening, so to hear the detail of the prosecution/defence plus an updated take on the whole theory of shaken baby was interesting and the was some dramatic tension as I couldn't actually remember the outcome of the trial.

Agreed Succession would be unwatchable if it wasn't for Tom.
Ozark is full of sympathetically drawn characters that have to do bad things to survive.

First couple of series, maybe, but I sense that ship has sailed, especially for Laura Linney's character...even Darlene is coming across better at the moment!
Worth watching just for Julia Garner though.
I'm also ambivalent about Ozark's merits.
And obviously I'm going to watch it all.
Finished the 'Gone for Good' mini series, its really not very good. Slow moving and finishes with loads of untied loose ends.
Puppet Master on Netflix is fascinating.
Succession would be unwatchable if it wasn’t for Tom.
I haven't watched the latest season, but cousin Greg alone makes it worth it.

We just watched Puppet Master the other night. Its absolutely insane!

I think Roman is the best character in it, revelling in his utterly morally bankrupt malevolence
Ozark's got better and better. Ruth must be most folks fave and Julia Garner's just so watchable. She's on camera I think in all the scenes in The Assistant (a "me too" themed film where the plot is nothing happens) and carries you through watching her make cups of coffee, basically, and do the photocopying or whatever folks did in offices.
Jason Bateman's acting is probably the worst thing in it (which he may know as he gets some production credits and will have a lot of sway, but seems to be doing less). The mexican nephew (is he, or cousin?) looks like an excellent new baddie.
If you need a goodie I guess you can root for the preggo detective.
But I'm only one episode in as I want to eke it out a while as I've finished the good telly.
I think Roman is the best character in it,
He gets the best lines!
Jason Bateman’s acting is probably the worst thing in it
Yep. I think it's an OK show, but it'll never be great as long as Bateman's in it.
Ozark along with BCS are the two best things for this year I reckon.
Ozark is so thick with atmosphere. That's all I really need - if I've got one criticism is that things tend to go from bad to worse all the time with no respite but same as JB says if the Byrdes choose to leave then it's the programme over.
As for After Life S3 - although it's still watchable - Gervais is so obsessed with trying to cause offence (despite what he says) that he's run over the barometer of what his true to character or funny. That, and the fact this series should've have stopped at S1 unless there was some reason to propell the characters forwards and there's not. There was a real opportunity here for the characters to grow.
It's lost any charm it had and turned istelf into a sketch show that doesn't know when to stop with the OTT humour.
The signs were there in S2.
He needs to rewatch Curb Your Enthusiam in a masterclass of keeping an anti-hero watchable and hilarious. Same as Larry David says - you don't abuse swearing - it becomes less funny if you overuse.
Curb is amazing and I'm going through them all again - and loved S11 on NOW.
The mexican nephew (is he, or cousin?) looks like an excellent new baddie.
Lol. He's definitely the new MacGuffin.
No apologies necessary! This is a thread for all 😃 The quality of content on Sky Docs knocks everything else including Netflix into a cocked hat anyway!!Apologies not Netflix but if you have SKY there’s The Alpinist that follows a solo climber. Plenty of vertigo inducing clips!
Watched this last night... absolutely riveting from start to finish, amazing story & incredible piece of film-making.
the show where every character is a *. yay go *
Totally agree
Julia Garner is superb as Ruth , has been since her first appearance.

Watch The Americans if you haven't already.

Struck me as a series he'd intended as a one-off but had to stretch it out due to "demand". Did ok, considering.
'Power of the Dog' book is 99p on Kindle, if anyone fancies putting someone else in starring role 🙂

gawd, those massive preview links are so unnecessary!
Have you seen the Power of the Dog film? Need to get around to this one.
@rone Seen it twice, first at the cinema where you really appreciate the effort Jane Campion puts in to the big landscape shots.Watched it again on the telly, some terrific acting, but I think Cumberbatch is exceptional.
I liked Power of the Dog - I was referring to something I read about it, mentioned probably page or 2 ago
Not sure if it's been mentioned on here (most probably) but Barbarians was really good. It's a German series about the Romans and their encounters with the Germanic barbarians. Series 2 comes out this summer.
I didn't realise Snowpiercer is back!👍
Only one episode a week though...
absolutely riveting from start to finish, amazing story & incredible piece of film-making.
Totally agree @zilog6128, astonishing story told with some power.
Watching Archive 81 on Netflix, It's a slow burn that draws you in. Kinda stupid, and trying o be creepy (but failing at least on that score) but interesting enough to keep me watching.
Apologies not Netflix but if you have SKY there’s The Alpinist that follows a solo climber. Plenty of vertigo inducing clips!
Received an iTunes/App Store gift card for my birthday so just bought it, looking forward to watching it later with a beer from the comfort of my recliner
Julia Garner is superb as Ruth , has been since her first appearance

The last five minutes of the last episode are brilliant. Ruth's scream is incredible.
We just watched it last night. Absolutely brilliant ending to those first 7 episodes.
Can't wait for this second lot to drop later this year. I suspect its going to be very, very messy, very very violent, but this is definitely the lat series so who knows how they'll wrap it up?
Not Netflix (sorry) but well worth mentioning the following:
Station Eleven - probably a standalone series but I really enjoyed it...kind of apocalypse meets Shakespeare.
1883 - western/ frontier drama by Taylor Sheridan with Sam Elliot, Tim McGraw and His wife in..5 episodes in and it's great.
Ref The Alpinist - great recommendation. Apart from giving me seriously sweaty palms, its riveting. The last climbing doc I watched I just found the climber a really annoying twonk, but this one is nothing like that.
By the way, Martin Freeman’s new thing on BBC, The Responder is off to a good start. If you get to the end of the first one, you’ll have to watch the second 😊
Just finished the second ep of the responder, so far so good. Freemans Scouse accent was a bit distracting to begin with, but it's bedded in now. He's playing a good..... Psycho/lunatic/very angry person.
The Responder on iplayer is the best drama the BBC have done for years. It’s dark, intense stuff with just enough black humour.
The writing is brilliant!
Mrs Binners has already appropriated one line which really made her giggle, referring to money matters:
“I’m not Pablo Escobar, you tit!!” 😂
Curb is amazing and I’m going through them all again – and loved S11 on NOW.
without doubt the greatest comedy show of all time. ive watched it through several times. some of the later seasons suffer with more enforced and unrealistic story lines as a vehicle for the comedy which let it down for me, (the Ayatolla stuff, this years bad actress blackmail are a bit ridiculous) originally it was normal everyday monotonous annoyances (pants tent, cut-n-chat) that it highlighted which made it so funny. That said, its still head and shoulders the funniest show ever. its incredible how his regular encounters with Susie never ever get tired!
We just watched Puppet Master the other night. Its absolutely insane!
^^^^
THIS. It really is bonkers, and only 3 episodes.
We finished Startup last week. A real rollercoaster that mashes up Haitian gangs, Russian mobsters, tech startups and other shizzle across Florida. Fast paced and - so long as you're prepared to suspend disbelief - it carries you along on quite a journey. Preposterous, but highly watchable.

She's amazing. "Jeff the fat **** - why does he need 12 cakes!"
S3 is so so good.
Did you see the prequel movie Ferry? That’s v good.
Not sure i can take seriously a drug gang leader who hangs out in a cabin in a trailer park 🙂

Got to agree! I usually give BBC dramas about half hour and the script is so unrealistic I switch off... but this one is really well done. I was gripped after 10 mins. Freeman is very convincing and proper cliff-hangers at the end.
Warrior nun.. surprisingly easy watching on netflix

Well, that escalated quickly... 😮
Brilliant. And Jesus Christ Darlene and her shotgun, I proper laughed at the father incident, even though I knew exactly what was coming 🤣
