Disney+     Hit Monkey. Possibly my new favourite thing. Totally preposterous nonsense, but rather darned entertaining.

"Crash Landing on You".

Korean romantic comedy about a South Korean heiress accidentally crash landing in North Korea and meeting a North Korean soldier. One of the best things I've seen for a while.

Right, Mrs Mellie and I are in need of a new 'half hour before bed' series to follow on from:

What we do in the shadows (iPlayer)
Brooklyn 99
Superstore
Schitt's Creek
Parks and Recreation
The Good Place (all Netflix)

(all recommendations in themselves)

Started watching The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, but for a parody, it's a bit crap IMHO.

Any suggestions?

The Puppet Master is an interesting watch. Not sure it’s what you’re looking for, but definitely worth watching.
(True life crime documentary)

Not for half an hour before bed but I know there are a few space geeks on here, Challenger: The Final Flight was very good.

Mentioned before, Puppet Master is great
On Prime, and a bit soap opera but This is Us is quite watchable

Has anyone mentioned Home Game on Netflix? As a series its a bit meh but the first episode on Calcio Storico is off the scale. Gladiatorial combat meets rugby meets dodgeball on the streets of Florence, it is completely insane.

If you have Prime and haven't seen 30 Rock - it's even better than the shows you mention (IMO).

On Netflix - Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Great News are both hilarious and very in-tune with the kind of humour you seem to like.

I assume you've been through the US version of 'The Office'?
I'm enjoying Friday Night Dinner, which I assume is All4.

a new ‘half hour before bed’ series

For a wind down/chilled easy watch, some of the walking programs on iPlayer are very good.
They are usually about half an hour.
Just finished Lolo's Pembrokeshire set.

Cheers folks. We don't have Disney+ (Only Murders in the Building does look good); Wayne and 30 Rock will be next up (we're always late to the party!!)

For those of you who liked Dopesick (on Disney+), check out The Pharmacist on Netflix. It's a true life account of a father who searches for his son's killer after he got hooked up in the world of opioid addition (created by PP in Dopesick).

For something more lighthearted, we're nearing the end of Young Sheldon S3. For a family show about family dynamics, it's just plain brilliant. Not necessary to have an appreciation of Big Bang Theory.

@roger_mellie - if you've got prime then have a look at upload. Easy watching, I thought it was really good. Still waiting for a second season!

Disenchantment.

Matt Groening of Simpsons and Futurama fame does story-arc fantasy.

The Ranch is a good watch if you can look past Danny Masterson's alleged rapey nature IRL.

Ah, yes, that was good (forgot to add to my list!) Roll on second series.

Sorry, they’ve now removed 30 Rock from Prime.

No worries!

Last night in soho, Edgar Wright film with Anya Taylor Joy, very very good. On Google Play Films/ YouTube and Amazon Prime I think. Different to the usual Hollywood superhero nonsense. Cracking soundtrack too.

It's far simpler to pitch "it's like [familiar successful movie] but set in [exotic location]" than it is to convince studios/publishers to invest in an untried/untested idea.

I found myself watching Black Summer again. Nothing original there but as zombie clones go it's pretty brutal. Their budget limitation works for them in that you keep seeing zombies which were characters with speaking roles in previous episodes. The zombie momentarily distracted by its own reflection was very neatly done.

We just started watching Suspicion on Apple TV+. The plot is full of holes but it's quite entertaining.

We also just finished bingeing 2 seasons of The Defence on All4 - Polish drama about a defence lawyer. Hilariously OTT

I've enjoyed the programmes you list (Brooklyn 99 is probable my favourite comfort programme), I really liked S1 of The Great, I think S1 is on All4, S1 & S2 are on Prime. We've just been trying to get through Sucession before starting on S2 of this.

Sounds good, ta.

I am very partial to a decently executed Italian crime drama.

I watched Maiden on Netflix over the weekend. A documentary film about Tracy Edwards and her all female crew taking on the Whitbread Round the World Race whist smothered by overwhelming sexism in the sport. It was really good and surprisingly emotional. Thoroughly recommend it.

Always Sunny is great, yeah.

Just wait until Frank arrives and it really hits its stride.

The perfect thread, as I'm holed up with Covid for the next five days at least.

Enjoyed so far:

Giri/Haji -   UK police try to work out why Yakuza shit is going down in London. Some good characters and script, well acted, well shot.

End of Watch - cop partners covering a very challenging patch in South Central LA. Not your clichéd cop buddy film - I found it immediate, visceral, disturbing in places and tense.

Not enjoyed:

The Councilor (sic) - This should be amazing; Rodley Scott directing Michael Fasbender, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt.

But it's gash.

Yeah seems great for something to watch that I don't actually have to 'really' watch or else I'm lost on the next episode as I missed a 5 second conversation that was crucial to the plot line...

I'm also watching designated survivor, which is OK but my god it has holes you could lose an entire US cabinet in...

Like the guy who used to work at the pentagon, who had a swipe card made for him to get back in, they had the swipe card details but don't know where he is in the building?!? Or the FBI seemingly having a single IT tech who has to single handedly decode a hack... Or the moment when someone makes a phone call to voice mail saying "...blah blah I love you" - oh well you're about to die. Or "oh no, he's been shot in the chest at point blank range, I wonder if he's dead... HMMMM" omg what a shock, he's not.

🤣🤣🤣

Giri/Haji

Just spat out my coffee at Charlie Creed-Miles' Cockley gangster. Yakuza have a 16 year old girl hostage, so you expect the rescuers to approach with a cautious sneaky plan. Instead, he bursts in with his gun and shouts "konichiwa, dickheads"

I got into this a few years ago and binged the entire run in a few weeks. Seriously one of the all-time funniest & best shows! It actually gets better too as it goes on... Rob McElhenney is a method actor extraordinaire and his commitment elevates the show to another level 😃 Gutted we have to wait until the end of this year at least for S16 😭

The climax of Mac's story arc was awe-inspiring and totally unexpected. One of the great TV moments. No spoilers obvs.

I've just realised S15 is now on Netflix. Haven't seen it yet.

🙂
