Just finished S3 of Ozark. We also recently watched Unorthodox which was very good - great acting by the lead actor, Shira Haas. Along with Better Call Saul, Netflix are doing well at the moment.
Got two episodes left of series 3 of Ozark. Absolutely bloody brilliant!!
If you want a great documentary then watch Wild Wild Country. Like Tiger King it starts off at ‘bonkers’ then winds up to ‘absolutely insane’!
For Better Call Saul fans, this is Tony Dalton (Lalo Salamanca) earlier in his career.
Furture Man on Prime, great 😀
Just started watching Babylon Berlin - sort of 30's Deutsch Noir (!). Watched Unorthodox which was great (and also quite interesting in a cultural sort of way).
On council telly, The Nest was good.
Furture Man on Prime, great 😀
Only if you appreciate dick jokes, though. Luckily for me, I do.
I think i am the only person in the world who got bored and gave up on Tiger King?
I had my fill of him in the Louis Theroux doc years ago.
Future Man sounds more up my street ta... will have another crack oat ozark too.
I'm struggling to stay with series two of Ozark.
Would it be cruel to say it seems like a Breaking Bad knock-off, but even more contrived?
The Onion writers may have felt the same...

Yeah I struggled a bit with series 2 but 3 is much better, I think.
I find Ozark competent, but pretty derivative. I watch it while I'm cooking. Julia Garner is the best thing about it.
Thing I struggle with is Jason Bateman's overacting. He's one of those people I find hard to see as anyone other that Jason Bateman. Managed most of series 2, but don't think I'll bother with 3.
You should give it a go Dezzy. Miles better than series 2. In particular, the actor who plays the long lost prodigal brother puts in an absolute acting masterclass as someone with increasingly serious mental health issues, towards the end of the series. It's very effecting.
I watched a show called Tiger King over the Easter weekend. Dunno if anyone else has seen that?
Quite unusual stuff.
😉
I mentioned it in another thread I think, but there's a doc called Three Identical Strangers on Netflix at the mo which is well worth a watch.
Do not read up on it first and prepare to feel all the emotions.
Yes, Jason Bateman is the worst thing about Ozark. Every time I watch it, I wish William H. Macy was cast as Marty.
Just finnished Godless, definitely worth a watch 👍

No - you must. S2 was pretty low-key and lost some people. S3 is a firecracker.
JB does take a little bit of back seat in this one.
I like the guy - he's done well moving from comedy to this sort of acting, and in particular his Directing.

Completely plausible rather than bat-shit Jack Nicholson.
Would it be cruel to say it seems like a Breaking Bad knock-off, but even more contrived?
To a very minor degree. But it inhabits its own world now. Style is much much bleaker.
I reckon S3 is full of too much heartache to be contrived. There were many things I didn't expect.
Am I the only one who falls a little bit more in love with Kim Wexler every Tuesday?
I've found myself taking classes from Marty in Ozark for how to respond to my 3 year old.
Enjoyed Russian Doll as recommended earlier in thread... but the last episode was a little bit hackneyed.
Am I the only one who falls a little bit more in love with Kim Wexler every Tuesday?
I think that's most of us PP
Anyone seen Unorthodox - what's the deal?
The Nest on BBC is quite watchable, apart from the irritating Emily.
Am I the only one who falls a little bit more in love with Kim Wexler every Tuesday?
Definitely not alone on that front.
So BCS season five had a great end.
Well worth watching.
Really enjoying The Outsider (Stephen king) - very eerie. Some episodes directed by Jason Bateman. It has the look of Ozark. (Sorry this is on prime) The less said the better about the story really... Just expect slow burn noir weirdness and you'll be in for a treat.
Started After Life S2 - so far so good. It doesn't feel like it needed a second series at all - and Gervais is a bit too in love with the word ****, so it loses a bit of impact.
Some very good scenes though - anything with the postman.
Not sure if it's on Netflix but started Gangs of London last night. Its directed (first 5 anyway) by the same guy who directed The Raid so you know what to expect.
I too enjoyed Kim Wexler. Looks like she'll be back for the next series too 👍👍👍
Started to watch Money Heist. It's a great idea, and I expect is brilliantly acted....
... But the dubbing is awful. Really awful and starting to detract from the programme.
The atrocious dubbing reminds me of the films I (may) have watched in my formative years. You know, those 'exotic', non-English titles that frequently involved a plumber?
Can you get Money Heist with subtitles instead? Don't know if this is possible on a UK account.
Totally agree on Money Heist, really like the idea of it but could only last 20 minutes due to the awful dubbing. but I've found that to be on several things on Netflix
Just put English subs on!
They've always been there as far as I can remember.
Anyone a Better Call Saul fan? The season finale was amazing, the show is miles ahead of Breaking Bad
Just put English subs on!

Does that make the original Spanish dialogue come through though? I like hearing the voices, just not the shocking US ones that have been applied.
One example... The dubbed words were 'put his neck in the hanger'.
From the context, pretty sure the correct word would have been 'noose'. So no-one in the translation, voice acting or post-production teams thought 'Hmmm, that sounds wrong, why don't we change hanger for noose?'. Let alone, 'One more time, with feeling' 😉
I could have lived with that as a subtitle 'error'. But not spoken.
Really annoying 😵😵😵😵
Probably mentioned already, but I really enjoyed Kingdom. Zombies and court intrigue in 1600 (or something) Korea.

I watched it Spanish with eng subs.
but I really enjoyed Kingdom. Zombies and court intrigue in 1600 (or something) Korea.
It's tremendous isn't it? I've said it before, but it bears repeating, Come for the zombies, stay for the hats.
I tried Altered Carbon, and as I suspected it's a hot mess. It's what I imagined Dr Who would turn into if was given a huge budget and a post 9 PM slot. Absolute tripe.
That's the one! How? Are you in Spain?
Lost interest a bit in Better Call Saul, it is just verging on being a bit too slow and stretched out for me, forget what's happening. To caricature it: a whole episode could be devoted to them making a cup of coffee, and in the next, going for a dump.
Saw Devs (on iplayer) recommended somewhere on STW. Enjoyed it, definitely my type of thing. Loved the audio. Wished it was connected to my stereo to turn it up loud.
Managed most of series 2, but don’t think I’ll bother with 3
[Ozark]
3 is better. Well written, and nicely balanced. It's not clear which direction it'll go, until it turns, and unlike many dramas these days it leaves plenty to the imagination.
Ruth's brother is excellent as a loose cannon.

Yes. As much as I love it. I do agree. It's certainly an acquired taste that dares to go off at a tangent.
Series 5 has not been my favourite but has had some of the best scenes and episodes of the whole lot.
Series four has been the best complete season.
Last Kingdom has turned up, may need to overdose on some Saxon Viking nosh.

Just click on the little rectangluar speech bubble icon, it gives options for both audio version and subtitles:

I was the same, got about five minutes in and couldn't continue in the dubbed English.
Ozark 3 +1.
After life. Gervais is sublime once more.

Thank you!
Sanity restored.
Although, the voices sound mostly familiar... But at least they are in Spanish now. Much appreciated.
not enjoying the second series of Afterlife. in fact sacked it off after 2.5 eps so ill remember it fondly. what happened anyway? i loved the way S1 ended with his new positive outlook but he's back to being a miserable git all of a sudden...?
when he called that chubby bully a 'fat little c*nt' is S1 was one of the funniest moments of TV ever. when he tried the same gag on the yoga instructor was when i lost interest.
Gangs of London (despite the title) on Sky Atlantic is pretty frickin great tho!!
