She's 4 years old, been in a cat sanctuary for 12 months, likes fuss, quite independant and has settled in with me quickly, but her original name (sugar plum) doesn't suit her at all, currently she's being called 'cat'

Put some glasses on her and she would be the spit of you 😉

My cat I had from the RSPCA was called Violet, this didn't suit her at all, we left her unnamed for a while, called her pussycat then puss then puddycat, this got shortened to Pud which suited her.

Take your time, find out her personality and a name will come to you

Hmm tricky one, if she'd been a dog it would be easy, you could have had my ex wifes name she was a complete female dog.

Don't they call those things 'tabatha' anyway?

Here's a useful idea for when you want to take it out..

Kiska (key-skah) its Russian for pussy cat, or something.
Ikati (ee-car-tee I believe) - Zulu for cat.
Neil (neh-koh) - Japanese for cat.
hmm bit of a theme, I just called my cats Nic and Tilly (their full names are somewhat longer)

She's a Lily-cat. There's a very similar cat that visits us and she's called Lily so it's got to be Lily-cat. Or as Cranberry said, Bob.

My friend's latest cat is called Frankensteve. Nobody seems to know why.

Altogether now!

The naming of cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have three different names.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover--
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name-
Frankensteve.

Harriet. Our rescue cat (are you sure you haven't nicked her?) came tagged with the name Pumpkin and was immediately renamed Hattie (or Cattie Jacques as she is rather large compared to our previous cat).

Jesus is a fantastic name for a cat.

Have you found Jesus? - "yes, he's in the kitchen."

What would Jesus do? - "sleep for twelve hours a day and crap in next door's garden."

"Well, I've got to go now, Jesus needs me."

Calling for him to come in of an evening would be entertaining.

The only downside I can see is, if you hit your thumb with a hammer the cat will arrive.
