I also googled denno's original, Moderator-altered post to see what all the fuss was about.

Conclusion: In future, if I want to hear that kind of xenophobic, Daily-Mailisitic, life was better in the 1950s, crap I'll set my radio alarm clock to wake me up with the Sarah Kennedy Show first thing in the morning.

End of the day moderators take the discretion on this site and if you don't like stop posting drivel. Some people are offended by such jokes I just don't like them don't think they're necessary and certainly not on public forums run by a business.

Just look for posts by original poster then google crap joke.

I teach adult literacy and numeracy and, I promise you, you need to know how to work out fractions, decimals and percentages, even at the lower qualification levels. That's what offended me. The curricular may not be perfect but dumbing-down is an orthodoxy of the dumb, and offensive to my students who are working hard to overcome severe problems. So there. 😡

Slugwash speaks for me above and I thought the moderators' message was perfectly balanced in making the point without getting nasty.

It is possible the OP isn't racist, however the "joke" clearly was...and (just like tyger and quite a few others on here IIRC) he thinks it's OK cos lots of his friends are not white.

Thing is we don't know anything about him and he's a complete idiot if he thinks posting something like that publicly will have folk going "Oh I'm sure that guy's OK, what harm can it do" etc etc.

I am glad the mods saved me from having to read the rapidly escalating lame-ness of the original joke.

But I think that cynic-al's proposal, that "people should have a apply for a license in order to cut & paste" has a lot of merit. 😀

I have had to google this because removing points 6 and 7 of the joke left me very confused and feeling that I must be a racist (I neglected to read the mods comments). I have found point 6 on t'web, I have in fact found different versions of point 6 on the web (spanish and arabic). I am still slightly baffled, acknowledging that english may oneday not be the dominant language doesn't seem racist or xenophobic to me - perhaps I am wrong, but outwith a joke it seems to me that acknowledging it may be beneficial to learn Chinese to get ahead in business is wise.

Now, I havent found point 7 on the web and perhaps there is good reason, and perhaps the point 6 I found was not the same as the OPs joke. I don't wish to stir things up but is point 6 really that offensive?

Seriously - I would have loved to have been in that creative meeting - yeah, like, you see, Compare the Market sounds a bit like Compare the Meerkat, so why not imagine a website that compares meerkats?
