Definitely got a rock slant to my preferences, got love for decent hip hop (the Roots, Guru and the like) and really enjoying newer electronica such as Chvrches and Naked and Famous, but it occurred to me while putting together a few mix CDs for roadtrips (yes, that's how I roll) that I've not bought much new music over the past couple of years.

I guess it's part of getting older, but is there anything out there now that you think I really should be listening to?

Young Fathers.
(I'm still blown away by how awesome their live show was on Monday)
Cadence Weapon for some new hip hip
Breton for that indie/electronica slant.

Want links/vids?

[edit]Also check The Glitch Mob's new album

A few new(er) rock bands to look for;

Von Hertzen Brothers
Blackstone Cherry (Been around a bit, but still great!)
The Temperance Movement
The Answer
Oh, and Steel Panther, obviously. 🙂

For rock/bluesy / psychedelic type stuff try:
Easy Offs
Graveltones
Radio Moscow
Black Angels
Moon Duo
Wooden Shjips
Tame Impala

Within Temptation

Whenever they crop up, I can't help but think of the magnificent Crucial Taunt 😀

Rock* stuff I can remember buying last year (amongst the other stuff):

Slave Vows by Icarus Line
Run Fast by the Julie Ruin
Sistronix by Deap Valley
Desperation by Oblivians
Silver Age by Bob Mould

*like all pop music sub-genres, I never know where the definition starts and ends.

Google images FTW. 😀

They sound like a modern-day Heart, which is arguably not a bad thing.

I like to think I'm reasonably open-minded about these things. 🙂

Fancy some left-field prog rock?

OK, I'll try to think of a list of things I've enjoyed recently. Have to do some work first....

This is Opeth - it's a bit dark, and can be pretty hard to listen to, at times. They also do some proper thrash metal stuff, but there's none of that here. One of my favorite bands around, by miles; so much beautiful musicianship and variety. Keep an open mind...

Opeth are interesting. Trying to think who they remind me of.

Liking Glitch Mob and Young Fathers. Cadence not really flicking my switch, if I'm honest.

Bob Mould reminds me of being a student. 😀

Try 'Skuff - Destroy Everything'. Superb Uk hiphop, lyrical genius.

Mala in Cuba is a bit different and worthy of a purchase.
