Should your time for the race start from the gun or from when you cross the start line?

it is a race, ie from the gun, first accross the line is the winner. Anyother method whilst arguably fairer would mean you don't know who won until judges made a decision.

Most starts are gridded now, to place the better riders near the front, the only difference is in big continental sportives such as the Marmotte and Maratona dles Dolomites where your time is from the point where you roll over the starting line.

Start from the front. Then no difference at all.

I believe it's from the 'B' in Bang.
Won't it depend on whether you have a chip or not?
