There is a cracking pub in Dungeness called 'The Pilot' that does the best fish and chips I've tasted anywhere in the country and the portions of fish you get are huge. Must be something in the water down there......

HA! Not mention the MOD land down there used for training - AKA blowing sh1t up and smoke everywhere

It's a cracking spot. Really tres beau and quiet... in a kindof weird apocalyptic way.

Incidentally - the nuclear powerstation is built barely 20m above sea level on an unconsolidated shingle bed that has been characterised by geomorphological dynamism (i.e. it's very, very unstable) for at least the last 8,000 years..

...Add to that the predicted effects of climate change and associated sea level rises and... Hmmmm...

I've lived on the Romney Marsh or very close to it, for the whole of my life. You either love it or hate it. Dungeness in particularly is a totally unique place and has a mesmerizing charm about it. If it's a bungalow, it could be an old railway carriage - lots of them are down there. I also worked behind the bar at The Pilot a good few years back and loved every minute of it!

I shouldn't worry about the sea level rising, you'll be surrounded my fishermen with huge fishing trawlers - you'll be fine!

2nd the pilot, the fish portions are ginormous!
I think the ranges are lydd and hythe where the RE go to blow sh1t up. I found it a bit desolate every time I went.

Given that a nuclear power station only has a life span of 40 years I'm guessing it's not going to be a problem.

Yes.. but I'm pretty sure the core has to be kept in a 'stabilised' state - in situ - for around 100 - 150yrs after shutdown, to allow the radiation to decay.

I think Dungeness is considered to be a bit of a timebomb because of this issue.. (It's not talked about much though!)

think you're right backhander; spent a lot of school holidays in Rye as a kid - standing on the beach there or camber and just plumes of smoke going up with the crack of shells going off.

Thats as close as I'd want to get - not literally have it all in my back yard like that place!
