I'm hoping someone can help who has been in a similar situation.

I currently have car insurance with Direct Line. I'm selling the car on Sunday and buying a small car derived van (combo). The van will be registered privately, but the policy must cover commercial use for my work.

Will Direct Line be able to swap over the vehicle or will it be a case of cancelling one policy and creating a new one?

Can anyone advise of any issues they've had?

I've tried their website chat help which was useless.

In my case everywhere wanted me off the policy I was on and onto a new commercial one, even the company I was with at the time.

As a bonus the commercial policy was cheaper.

The same happened to me and my combo. Apparently the rules regarding insuring car derived vans changed in December of last year. Try NFU though - I was gobsmacked at how much cheaper it was than my last insurers quote.

Thanks all I didn't realise there had been so many replies to this. Will definitely check out NFU. There's an office nearby.

When I had a van I use cooperative Insurance. They were the best and cheapest.

Tried the NFU. They won't insure me for commercial travelling, and will only cover for either private use or if I was a self employed tradesman.

I've gone with Directline again and got it for £324 with full cover for what I need.

For info:
26 year old male, 5 years NCB, £150 excess, fully comp.

I'm happy enough with the amount and have been happy with Directline's service in past.
