Buying our first house and comparing mortgages. Have good quotes from both HSBC and Accord; the former we bank with so makes sense to keep it simple, but the latter are slightly cheaper but seem to get panned on review sites. I also like the sound of HSBC as i've never heard of Accord.

Does anyone have any first-hand experience of either? Good or bad?

Ours is with HSBC. No problems - happy with them. Tried to move it a few years ago, gave them the details of the other offer (Principality, I think) and they matched it. From our experience, I'd recommend them. The only thing we don't have is a payment 'holiday' type thing which we saw with other lenders - would've been handy to let the wife stay off work a bit longer after our daughter was born - other than that, no issues.

Brilliant - thanks Mog. Every provider seems to be drowning in negative reviews online so good to hear a happier story.

We're with HSBC on a peach of a deal (B.R. + 0.49% tracker) always had good service from them too.

Another happy HSBC-er here - we took ages to actually complete because the people we bought from lacked the basic cognitive ability of a piece of celery. HSBC very understanding and very helpful throughout the process.

On same deal and MMTM - also bank with them, so having all accounts on one internet banking screen is handy. Had no cause to consider moving.

HSBC here too. Happy with BR + 0.5%! Not so happy they changed rules on LTV 2 days before we got loan to extend leaving us 10k short! (Not really their fault though!

Go HSBC.
