From work this time.
we sent some samples to a customer prospect in the west country. they haven't arrived and we're now up against it to make and send some more to meet their timescales.
Royal mail aren't taking any responsibility for either the loss of the samples, or the tracing of the original set, because until they've been missing for 15 days they aren't lost in their eyes.
So far so good.
Except it was a tracked service, we have a signature on file for the delivery, and we have the record of it being tracked in and out of various sorting depots up until the point of delivery. the issue being, that the last depot it went from was Sunderland. For overseas readers, that's more that 300 miles from the west country.
Now, unless the Sunderland postie has a very long round, I'm kind of thinking they've delivered it somewhere random in Sunderland instead. Why is your guess. And in spite of all this being laid in front of them, they won't do anything for another 12 days because it isn't lost yet.
Inspirational stuff! By that I mean, i feel inspired to avoid using them whenever possible.
Tbf if it has been signed for then in royal mails eyes it has been delivered and is no longer their problem. which service has it been sent on?
Special i think. That was their initial position, it's been signed for, what's the issue.
So let's get this straight? I pay you to deliver my package to anywhere you fancy, and as long as someone receives it and signs for it, that's job done? It'll save time in addressing envelopes, i guess, might as well leave them blank.
I am a postie.... The likelihood of a special being missdelivered is slim, though it does happen. The machine used to sign on should show a name and time of signature. This doesn't have to be the person it is addressed to, just someone who works/lives/has access to that address. if the company is adamant that they have not received the package then, with the name and time of signature, you have grounds for serious complaint, though tbh you are only likely to get back the amount of postage and the value of the product, unless insured for a greater amount. If all else fails email to moya green helps....
daftvader, I was about to call you out as being the MD of Yodel....
That's just rude!!! ๐ ๐ but thankfully no... Just a humble postie
Are the recipients absolutely sure it hasn't been delivered?
In a previous life I had to chase up a lot of deliveries (mainly Parcel Force) after irate phone calls from customers complaining they hadn't had their stuff.
I reckon a good 95% of the time it had been delivered and signed for, and the person who signed for it hand't passed it on.
As per the op, the tracking shows it as having been delivered and signed for but from a depot 300 miles away from where it should have been. Putting that alongside the fact that the intended recipient 'claims' to have not received it, i don't *think* I'm putting 2 and 2 together to make 5.
Just spoken to a manager regarding this.... Phone customer service and explain that it appears to have been delivered 300 miles from where it should have been.... As showed by tracking. Multiple addresses do happen which may explain this. The pda it was used to sign should be able to be used to trace where it went. If all else fails and customer service is useless then escalate it to moya green....
This. Having just sent a load of stuff from eBay auctions and it all eventually turned up having been put in a safe place or just ignored as the person who signed didn't know/tell the recipient even though they work in the same office. Are the recipients absolutely sure it hasn't been delivered?

cheers DV, will do.
It's not my package actually, it's one of the lab peoples but just came up in a weekly update meeting and I thought a bit of venting to 'the wisdom of cyclists' (tm my wife's name for this place) might turn some ideas up.
No worries... It annoys the shit out of me when my colleagues cannot do their jobs properly.... Gives us all a bad name.
