How is this supposed to work? All it seems to do is distribute the dirt in a more even layer. You create an emulsion or a suspension of the dirt, spread this all over the floor, and then let the water evaporate. In the case of the contract cleaners (i.e. the 'professional* cleaners') at most offices I've seen, they also start with a bucket of filthy dirty water and a stinking bacteria-laden mop.

I had a boss once who was fond of saying 'professional just means that we do it for money'.

If it wasn't lifting any dirt then the water in the mop bucket would be clean.

Scotroutes is correct, but so is this

professional just means that we do it for money

although there should be some training involved....

Maybe try Jet washing the kitchen floor, in theory it's more efficient, see how that goes down?

Two bucket system. One with detergent/cleaner, one for rinsing. Gives a much better result, but it's a bit of a pain.

I've always believed that people spend far too much time cleaning. If you don't eat off the floor, why does it have to be clean?

I tend to agree which is why I got a Karcher hard floor cleaner 4 years ago - continuous flow of warm soapy water applied to the the rollers which then clean the floor with the dirty water being sucked up into the waste water tank.

The best solution* I've found so far.

Because it looks crap?  Do you apply the same thought process to clothes? 😉

* see what I did there?

It's also more expensive to use a doubke mop system, as it's more time consuming, and the kit is more expensive. Or it can be mopped twice if it's a heavily soiled floor, but it all adds up to the customer having a higher bill, and they don't like paying for cleaning.
Still, with minimum wage heading north of £11 it'll be interesting to see what excuses get used to slash cleaning budgets that little bit more. Perhaps you won't even get your floor mopped at all.

I try to wear clean shirts so that I can eat the crumbs off them. Trousers, I'm not so fussed.

It's a bit of a ballache, but the floor does look better afterwards.

Now my car on the other hand - either I'm inside it, or I'm in my house and it's parked halfway up the road somewhere. Either way I can't see the grime. Cleaning that thing really would be a waste of my time.

Do you not scatter another layer of straw or sawdust on the floor?

a stinking bacteria-laden mop

if there’s soap / detergent in the water then any bacteria on the mop, and subsequently the floor, should be dead.

I wouldn't have cared a jot when I was younger.  Now days - double mop every week, vac twice a week (if not more), a plate underneath my toast, no shoes in the house.

Oh how the knife blade has dulled.
