We will be in touch
We did acid house up to 1992 a while ago and it was amazing. So how about 1993 to 1997ish?
Arguably the golden era of the British club scene and of dance music in general - before it got too segmented and the coke took over.
Inspired by this almost forgotten classic popping into my head...
And an underappreciated funky acid monster...
I could go on, and on - but I'll hand over to you...

I remember sitting down with some mate's for a bit of a smoke with the Essential Mix on in the background and accidentally being treat to the first playing of Oakenfold's Goa Mix, it never got better than that for me.
it's gotta be Josh Wink's BIG tune. Higher state of
oh shitloads of tunes. I was too young really, but in 1997/98 i used to go to metalheadz nights at blue note hoxton square.
I was really into this from 1996
Goldie - inner city life, what a ****ing tune, holds up today and every day. Listening to the song you can clearly see the hustle of a big city but it drifts off to make you dream of golden sun kissed fields and for us riding a bike down through it at speed.
Spot the themeā¦
Higher State of Consciousness was one of the candidates for the intro post, never gets old eh?
If you've got 14 minutes to spare, this might bring back a few (hazy) memories.
Prefer rock/indie music of that decade though.
I feel this thread has unfulfilled potential, so here's another minor classic from 1992...
Many choices, this always sounded good
Soooooooooooo many tunes to choose from, but if I had to choose one... It's this...
The very first 12" vinyl single I ever bought! 8)
Pretty much anything on Soma but will go for the obvious
Many happy hours spent at gatecrasher and Niche during the mid 90's in Sheffield but just a pity I cant remember it! Tunes from 95 and 96...
Bit more mainstream. Todd Terry mix from 97, classic De'Lacy from 97 and Alcatraz from 95
This era will forever be Stu Allen saying large choon.
A guy I know who used to be a 90s club DJ has recently dusted off his 1210s and made some mixes.
This is my favourite..

Many a night long forgotten clubbing but what will always stand out for me was the nights in between spent driving around with the lads listening to essential mixes on the 6x9's š
Daft Punk
Tasha Killer Pussies
Might of been just out of the time frame there but who cares. Two classic sets either way š
There are 2 belters that stand out above the rest for me:
Gat Decor - Passion
Alison Limerick - Where Love Lives
K-Klass
Let me show you
Still love this tune today....
Started it all for me š

Hughjayteens-used to go there around that time with another dj who played there, Craig Stocks. We all used to go to Bowlers in Manchester where he played a set then ping it over to Wigan when he played a set near the end. Happy, hazy memories 8)
SMASH!!!!
Scrapes into the end of the period. Classic. Roni Size Brown Paper Bag.
Thursday nights were trance at the Coven in Oxford. Friday nights were techno at Club UK in London. Both were always epic. But one of my most memorable 90s club nights was hosted by Roni Size and Reprazent in Paris (Les Bains Douches I think). At the start the room was full of immaculate but stationary French people and three red-faced Brits bouncing around. Then Reprazent decided to give the Frenchies a drum'n'bass history lesson, covering every classic tune since the early 90s. Within about 30 minutes the entire room was a heaving sweaty mess. Brilliant. For that reason:
Uncanny ^^
More big beat than anything else - but this was one of my favourites
And this.

I remember those years staying up late on weekends to listen to Essential Mixes and Pete Tong, even Boy George did a few shows IIRC. Wasn't old enough to go out so it was radio only for me.
Great minds corroded.
Never heard that Casual Sub track, it's great. I used to play the original funk version during my brief DJ career - that one would have been better though!
Slam - Positive Education was possibly the second most-played track when I was clubbing in the mid-90s. And rightly so.
The most popular was of course...
Still gives me goosebumps listening to it while working at home on a Monday morning.
The ones I remember are de lacy - hideaway, Robert miles - children, josh wink - higher state, Greece 2000 - three drives and offshore by chicane. We'd belt them out on pirate radio haha!
This Leftfield Essential Mix from 1994 is quite special, holds up incredibly well now - especially the middle section from 40-odd minutes in...
The guy who uploaded it has done an amazing job of including all the labels of the records in the video, fading in as they're mixed in.
Who can forget the stunning opening to Pete Tong's first Essential Mix album. This is up there with the best from the time
Remember listening to one of my big brother's recordings of a Nick Warren Essential Mix from Radio 1. This stuck out and although I never Knew its name or heard it since, the harmony from this song would float in to my life every now and then. Two months ago I tracked it down and got it's name. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!
As a side note, and a reflection of how society and music has changed, WTF HAS RADIO 1 BECOME! THE ESSENTIAL MIX STUFF WAS AT THE FRONT OF AN ENIGMATIC AND CUTTING EDGE YOOF/YOUNGISH ADULT CULTURE!
i used to go to metalheadz nights at blue note hoxton square.
I was under the influence quite often there...:-)
the best club (imo) was Lord Weatherall's Sabresonic though....yeeha.
My nomination - The Aloof Too High.
I was a big Orbital fan...
That Golden Girls tune above was done by one of the Orbital blokes, which I only just found out reading the comments on YT.
š
I saw Empirion do a set at a Festival in Bradford last year.
It was a little bit dull and looked like two bored accountants sat at their laptops š
Only a short intro video but these guys were incredibly entertaining:
THOSE WERE THE DAYS!
Yes indeed!
Have you read this? One of the commenters selected may even be an STWer...

Being a southerner we didn't see that much of the man like Sasha, but he did show up at the Drum Club one Thursday evening and his mixing was just on another level.
He seemed to play stuff we didn't hear from anyone else either, heavy but with a real light touch at the same time.
This is the closest match I can find to my hazy memories (snowballs that night I think)...
Goldie Orchestra
Goldie Orchestra
just scraping in
Still gives me goosebumps listening to it
YES chakaping.
Another favourite of mine from Herrs Bondzio und Zenker which still holds up imo.
Errr I'll mop this one up:
These maybe:
Chakaping, that was a nice article, so true. Something about all the comments after such tunes allows us to relate to them even though we may not have had the same direct experiences (although I reckon I did date and eventually marry one of the best looking ladies in my town - divorced now!)
The article makes me think of us, as old men, still sitting listening to this stuff on youtube and whether that will be the case. My answer is of course it is as I often think back to what someone said a couple of years ago to me..........WHEN WE GROW OLD IT IS ONLY OUR BODY THAT AGES, WE REMAIN THE SAME WITHIN
Another favourite of mine from Herrs Bondzio und Zenker which still holds up imo.
Yep, they could be surprisingly funky eh?
My personal fave of theirs...
