Just discovered that you can edit charts using XML, i have some charts to create that i can't quite get to work using the basic editor that is part of CRM.
So i am wondering if i can use the XML route to do it, thing is i don't know anything about XML and what it is capable of. Can anyone recomment a place to start learning?
Briefly the particular problem relates to the grouping of items, i can't do it in CRM so wondering if i can manually group them using code outside of CRM.

You can edit XML in any text editor - Notepad would be fine. XML is simple but powerful.
Try W3C schools for the basics or google XML tutorials, there will be loads.
But yeah, you should be able to manually move stuff around in your XML file.
