We will be in touch
Friends brought us back some pork pate type stuff in a can from France which I was thinking about having for lunch. However, now my brain has seen it coming out the can it's thinking 'that's dog food'. Anyone else struggle with meat in a can, or am I just being soft?
Paté I'd be okay with. Would you eat tuna from a can?
Mmmmm, spam toasties. Corned beef hash. Yum. Yep, just you
Tuna I have no problem with. I think it's the fatty jelly type stuff that slides out with it that's upsetting my brain 😕
Think of it like a pork pie but instead of pastry you've got tin.
I mind in a staff house one of the grads on his turn to cook made us all a delicious spam curry.
So we went to the pub.
Be fine man. Most of the "artisan" preserved meats in Germany come in a can. I have shelves full of em. Delicious.
Corned beef, mmm - nom nom nom...
Anyone find that American "whole chicken from a can" video...?
Couldn't do it, was turning my stomach . The girlfriend wolfed it down though, which is funny cos normally I'll eat anything while she has a long list of things she won't/can't do (mushrooms, OJ, prawns, aubergines, among many).

Fill yer boots...
When it comes to meat, anything other than fresh is just gross.
Foie gras comes in a tin and it is delicious.
Sounds like it's "Rilettes" they have bought you.
It's pretty usual for them to come in a tin. It could have come in a jar I suppose, but so could craft beer and fruit. Is it the can or the contents that you're finding upsetting?
I'm tempted to put together a Northern hamper for a southern work college.
Pek Ham
Spam
Corned Beef
Fray Bentos pies
Princes sandwich spread
Etc

That is a brilliant idea! I like it!
Who would have thought of meat in tin.
I need to start making my own hamper.
p/s: I have several tins of pulled pork from Tesco too ... nice but a bit sweet.
Very topical subject...
Last night as I was chowing down on my Corned Beef, mashed potato and peas dinner (an absolute favourite, my mum used to do for us when she couldn't be bothered to cook properly), the GF was sat next to me pulling faces and asking "how the hell do you eat that dog food?"... Bloody loves it I does!

I love corned beef fried rice absolutely delicious.
Very simple:
Fried some shallots & garlic.
Fried some corned beef
Add rice and fried until separate.
Add some petit pois or shredded Chinese leaf.
Add salt or soy sauce to taste and a bit pinch or two of sugar.
Eat with sweet chili sauce or Tabasco.
Try it you will love it.
Sometimes I think they are horse meat (my speculation) rather than actual beef as the old farmers once told me. I think they know what horse taste like ...
I'm currently working up the courage to give this a whirl...

Confit de Canard stuff you get from France is amazing 🙂
This is getting quite disturbing now (and I have jobs to get on with).
I gather foie gras (sp) is meant to be pretty cruel due to the animals beinf force fed until their livers enlarge.
Having read about non organic meat having growth hormones and antibiotics in it, and pondered mechanically reclaimed meat, I now couldn't eat any meat from a can. I used to be okay with it though. Now I eat less meat and try and buy the healthier/kinder sorts instead.
Is it the can or the contents that you're finding upsetting?
Both - my instant thought on getting it out the tin was 'dog food', then it had all that fatty jelly stuff, then I smelled it and it smelled like dog food (the girlfriend (who liked it) backs me up on this). By the time I tasted it (not too bad, but very salty) my brain had already decided it wasn't gonna happen!
Foie gras comes in a tin and it is delicious
They brought some of that too 😮 As I've never had foie gras before I'm not sure I want it out a tin for my first time!
Good quality tinned pate is common in a lot of places in Europe. TBH I do find it a bit odd but when you think about tinning stuff is a really good option. You don't need to use additives and it doesn't take as much energy to store and less likely to end up going off and being binned.
I'm pretty sure tinned ham is no better or worse than the cheap stuff in refrigerated packets.
Fresh Foie gras is nice too, but easier to store in a tin.
Have it on melba toast or pan fried it.
Tinned Haggis
HORRORS 😯 😯
Tinned meat products always remind me of army ration packs. The corned beef always seemed to make an appearance in the other meat offerings.
I do remember my gran bringing tinned ham as a treat - the one you open with a key. That wasn't bad, should give one a go again.
That chicken gif is making me giggle.

Nothing wrong with freezing meat. Can't see whats gross about that.

Or aged steak/game, which isn't exactly fresh....
I remember a time when Ye Olde Oak Ham was de riguer with a Saturday salad.
I used to be keen on M&S Chunky Chicken (especially for camping). Nowadays I think the only tinned meat I eat is corned beef (very occasionally).
Ooh send me a can of Bog. Especially if it's Smakfull.
