I like Marmite and I love Peanut Butter but, really, is this a good idea?
Who's pants do they have to spoon that out of?
Who doesn't combine peanut butter and marmite already?
It's all a bit "Take two jars to the toaster?"
I've been rolling my own for years - that way I get to choose whether I have just Marmite, just PB or the flavour sensation of Marmite PB. Ahead of the times, obvs.
On that logic the next big thing will be strawberry shake flavor (sic) chicken nuggets... but that was a long time ago.
Ooh excellent, that'll save me some time when on holiday. Marmite & crunchy peanut butter on toast is a kind of holibobs breakfast treat for me. 🙂
Love it!
It’s all a bit “Take two jars to the toaster?”
LOL
I have done this since childhood. A classic mix.
They also do Marmite cheese. I have homemade Marmite cheese but I used to regularly make HP Sauce Cheese - sliced Cheddar, a dollop of HP and microwave it. BING!
I'm sure that Sainsbury's did a savoury peanut butter containing yeast extract when I was a kid.
Yeah, the Marmite cheese. Its good stuff.

Marmite is, well, a bit Marmite.
What we need is to do this with Vegemite. 🙂
Will it contain palm oil?
I will stick to my cheese and lemon curd sarnies thanks
Marmite & Peanut butter toast has been my go to breakfast for years. I suspect I'll stick to two jars to get the right mix - heavy on the marmite. Love Marmite cheese, but needs a bit of extra kick; I'm sure this will be the same.
peanut butter is the O- blood type of food, you can add anything to it and it still works.
I love Marmite. I love peanut butter. On the recommendations of several posters of this parish last time we discussed such things I once tried them together, and despite my initial scepticism it actually turned out to be $%^&ing disgusting.
Probably didn't help that I spread them both half an inch thick, mind. Maybe a homeopathic amount of Marmite may have worked better?
Nah - it's got to be nice and thick. Temperature is key - warm enough to melt and form a good gloopy mess that drips out the toastie.
Available to order from Ocado now.
In the shops from the 7th April
Eugh.
I'd rather blow a goat.
Urgh.
I’d rather blow myself.
Oh **** no, I think the reason why PB works well with something is it's fatty and salty, add in something sweet and boom, jackpot. Like fried eggs and ketchup.
Mixing it with something that's just salty, why?
Cheese and stawberry jam ftw
OCrider is right, Sainsbury's used to sell the mix as savoury peanut butter. They stopped selling it around 20 years ago, I think.
BITD they used to do Dairylea with Marmite 😜

Really? 🤮
How long ago? 🧟♂️
We used to have peanut butter and golden syrup sandwiches on the weekend when I was a kid. White bread. 2 slices. With butter. Syrup on one slice, peanut butter on the other. Slap. Scoff. (You can use that as your recipe if you like)
Never with Marmite. Although I don't find Marmite at all Marmite.. can take it or leave it really.
How long ago?
Mid to late 80’s
Hardly revolutionary, but I discovered the other day that the banana soreen loaf is delicious when toasted and slathered in PB.
Good mix, but has to be decent PB (no sugar). Being terribly middle clarse, I mix Meridian yeast spread with their PB, Unilever can shove it.
All right, I tried pb years ago, never went back. I should revisit. Recommend me.
Unsure if this sounds amazing or like something Satan scraped from his shoe/hoof and sent upstairs.
Though Vegemite obviously not Marmite you heathens.
A few years ago I suggested Marmite and Crunchy PB to my wife who wanted something savory. It was meant as joke as I thought she would never go for it. She did and loves it!
Marmite suggestion: If you actually toast Marmite directly under a grill it develops a mild cheesy flavor.
Marmite = Dead brewers yeast that has been fined with the swim bladders of south east asian little fishes .. Yet its labelled as Vegan .
Interesting point STM... as a olde school vegan I've avoided it since Unilever bought the brand*, but assumed its ingredients were veggie. Quick deek at the official site:
IS MARMITE VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN?
The entire Marmite range is vegan, and certified by the European Vegetarian Union (EVU), except for the 70g jar. The 70g jar is currently only vegetarian – though we are in the process of moving towards vegan approval from the EVU.
Doesn't state why not. Though if the 70g jar is vegetarian then it can't have fish guts. Vit D maybe? Guessing 70g is the comedy sized one.
*That, and it's 8eur a jar (250g) in Spain
Marmite and Philadelphia.... lovely!
Horlicks farms were making Marmite cheese in the 80's.

Isn’t that Worcestershire sauce or something of that ilk? I don’t think they do much processing of the dead yeast in marmite except salt.
I am not a food scientist but I do live near the home of marmite

Finings are added to the brewing process right at the end. The yeast is long gone by then I'd have thought.

That's anchovies or some such.
some people like a lot of salt I guess
Why question an expert in their field on something you know next to nothing about. Finings are used to help clarity beer towards the end of the process. Some beer is run through a centrifuge and that would be cleaner. But the tank bottom s of bright tanks would be lobbed into the same tank ok
