I have just got my first iphone but have used their laptops for a while. Am I right in thinking apps for your iphone are bought off the itunes store? Apps for your laptop come from the App store?

you can buy apps either through the app store on the phone itself or through the app store bit of iTunes. When you sync your phone the apps are updated in either direction, so that you have copies on both the phone and in iTunes. Some apps will have components for both the mac and the phone - evernote, dropbox etc, so you'd download the phone bit through the app store and the computer version through the mac app store.
