OK I searched but found nothing so here's the Q. Did a spot of biking at the weekend, didn't specifically notice anything but the next day my other half awoke to find she had the characteristic bullseye pattern around what appears to be a bite mark. She didn't remember being bitten and we didn't find a tick, plus she normally reacts fairly bumpilly to mozzy bites so she thought nothing of it but I spotted the pattern and thought it was odd <mental note made>.

On returning home I spot it's a symptom of Lyme disease biteyness but now the area has returned to what just looks like an angry bite. What's the next step? GP? Self-diagnose before visiting and present it as an option or just see if they spot it?

On reading through the list of additional possible symptoms it seems I myself could claim at least one from each of the 8 or so catagories of symptoms lol. Should I get myself checked in?!

My brother had a tick bite a while ago. He went to the doctor and I think they took some blood and it turned out there was nothing. Which is what it probabbly will be. Get it checked tho.

Yes get it checked out immediately. We have had a couple of friends with Lyme Disease - you definitely do NOT want to get it as it can effect you for a year.

You should be OK as the tic needs to be clamped on for 24 hours to really increase the risk of the disease

A mate has suspected Lyme disease and has been seeing his GP, various specialists and trying different anti-biotics for over a year. He's still not getting any better. Go to see a GP ASAP, it took them ages to diagnose my mate. Even then the test isn't reliable. Definitely mention you think it could be Lyme disease, explain why and ask for a test.

I got mine check within in a 2 weeks of bite and it turned out negative. Symptons got worse. I felt awful. went back 4 weeks after bite and it was positive. The test needs to wait for the disease to take hold.

Its not a nice thing to have.

the blood test the UK medical establishment uses is only 50% reliable. Its also perfectly possible to contract it in under 24 hours, but the odds are less.

When you see the GP, push for an immediate and preventative course of antibiotics. Caught and treated early its much easier to treat.

If it becomes systemic like awh's mate it can be a nightmare and change your life for the worse. In the states they sometimes use Chemotherapy to treat it!

GP should dish out some antibiotics as a preventive measure as Scienceofficer says.

I had a tick on me for over a day after riding in Pennsylvania, where Lyme is endemic to the deer population. Was given an immediate course of tetracyclin - luckily no lyme has ever developed.

A guy i know thought he had Lymes disease, he had all the symptoms etc.. however tests were inconclusive...

His gas boiler went a bit dodgy, called the gas man and the man said it has been leaking carbon monoxide for a quite a while.

It turned out he was suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning!!!!

so get your boilers checked!!!

I had a tick bite, my doctor told me to MTFU, there was no way on earth he was going to get me tested for Lyme disease unless I'd been hospitalised. Helpful.

I'd kind of come to that conclusion, as it turns out in my case he was right but it was more luck than judgment

Thanks all, I'll push for her to get to the docs and be tested/treated then. Wouldn't like her to end up with any of the problems listed in the literature. Normally I'd tell her to WTFU but this one isnt worth the risk!
