We will be in touch
Strange as it may seem in these odd times, I might be heading out to Luxembourg in the next couple of weeks for a few months to help screen for Covid (dont ask!). Anyway I plan on taking both the roadie and mountain bikes....what is it like over there? Is it mountainous? flat? a bit of allsorts? Is there much of an mtb scene out there?
I have no idea about the place whatsoever so any experiences would be great.
Went once.
Part of the Ardenne is in Luxembourg so a fair chunk of the place is hilly and forested. There seemed to be a lot of cycle routes. Definitely many, many worse places in Europe to ride a bike.
Lovely place... I have beem vacationing in the area around Diekirch multiple times, never brought the bike, though. Friendly locals, beautiful cities, interesting museums. Good food and beer!
Been there on a motorbike. Lots and lots and lots of twisty, perfectly tarmaced, empty roads, in unspoilt countryside and woods, with castles everywhere.
Lots of river valleys and hills, but not especially mountainous.
VERY cheap fuel. 0.98 euros /l for petrol and 0.86 euros /l for diesel average at the moment, that's 77p a litre for diesel!
The Moselle valley is very pleasant and has cycle paths. You'll cycle through a tiny but star-spangled place called shengen.
I've a mate who lives there, he was a good cat 3 roadie when he went, at about 40 years old, he's incredibly quick now, wins races fairly regularly.
The road scene is huge.
Great place for road rides. You can ride two or three countries in a day. I used to ride towards Remich then go along the river. Cars respect riders too.
I dream of going back just to ride one day!
I was put into a very expensive hotel by work with glass wall on one side of the room and a glass shower and toilet so you could sit, shit and watch the people on the other side of the hotel shag all at the same time, as I did through necessity.
Strangely I did not enjoy my 24 ours in Luxembourg
One of my 2 best holidays was spent in Luxembourg as part of a party of 18-20 year old Venture Scouts. Awesome holiday, recollections of the place fairly hazy TBH.
We did the drive from Saarburg to the airport in a coach. Hilly, twisty and awful first thing. Would be brilliant for riding.
If circumstances were different the train connections are excellent.
it’s very small so if you don’t like the riding there you can hop over into Belgium, France or elsewhere. Used to go a lot with work. Don’t recall it being particularly hilly, not flat, sort of undulations. Certainly no mountains or what I would consider proper hills. But they won’t be too far away. think you will have to drive somewhere for mountain biking.
I liked the city itself. Typical European city, good food and wine as you’d expect, pleasant place to saunter around of an evening.
