He managed to take time out of his busy legal schedule to go to the show at his local school last night, apparently.

Never a band that interested me much, but a hell of a shock for those that do. Sadly, this could taint the band in future should they try to get a new lead singer, or if any of the rest of the band look for positions elsewhere, which is unfortunate. I can't imagine they'll get much airtime in future, either, or gigs.

Pretty easy for his defence to claim it wasn't a fair trial due to media speculation etc.

And to all those who already have him bang to rights.....remember the neighbourhood weirdo that was originally arrested for the Ipswich prostitute murders that the tabloids had the gallows out for.....released without charge. That's not to say these charges aren't disturbing, but we must let the justice system prevail.

Allow me to introduce you guys to a concept that sits very deeply within most legal systems:

Innocent until [u]proven[/u] guilty

Great concept however if you have served on a jury you will appreciate how screwed the whole process is.

We had a three minute presentation. This is where the defence sit etc. you would not believe the bone questions being asked by jurors who simply couldn't take in a three minute presentation and are then expected to sit through a trial which could take weeks.

In my case I was part of a larger pool who went into the courtroom and as I saw the accused I thought he looked an evil git. Now I was surprised by my reaction and made a mental note to hold myself in check. However things went down hill quickly from here as the accused was a copper and the charges went something along the lines of police dog Oscar bit so and so. The whole seriousness of the charges being read out and police dog Oscar gave me the giggles. Obviously I wasn't chosen after I blotted my copy book. Being a copper it was a high profile case and was on local tv and I said to my wife knowing the other jurors there was no way he would be found guilty. He was found not guilty.

Now I may have been wrong in my assumptions and he was quite clearly innocent.

Any further doubt about juries consider this. I was chosen. I consider myself fair and honest but I was surprised by my views and reactions and somewhat dissapointed.

I've been on the Jury for an inquest… at least half the jury were openly prepared to say what they needed to say to keep it short.

Lost my faith in the legal system somewhat after that experience.

I found my jury experience to be a bit of an eye-opener too. Not necessarily in a good way...

But having said that there are some criminal charges that are so heinous that even being charged with them would permanently taint your reputation, and I think in many cases there is an argument that the defendants' name should be suppressed unless a guilty verdict is returned.
