Looking for a lightweight shell for doing some outdoor circuits classes. nothing fancy, just functional. Anybody seen anything that would fit the bill?

If it doesn't need to be fully waterproof the Montane Velo jackets are great. Pertex windproof shells that pack down to the size of a medium orange. These come in cycling or mountain cuts.

I think Montane's got some minimalist proper waterproofs out now too.

Oh, and avoid GoreTex Paclite. Too delicate.

+1 on the Montane shells, they're brilliant. As Herman says, they're the size of an orange when in their little bag, and I've often taken mine out stuffed in my shorts pocket, in case it gets a bit cooler. Mine's several years old now, mand I've got their gillet as well, which is useful over a light fleece.

When I read the title I thought 'hermit crab'

Nearly fainted when I misread the name in the first reply.. I thought hermit crab replied!

Apologies up front for sounding like a tosser but if you are doing a decent outdoor circuit your shell should become redundant during the warm up.

Montane Featherlite smock
- it is windproof and shower-proof too but more importantly it breathes really well.
If you get too hot take it off roll it up and shove it in your pocket

Haglofs Shield pullover? Have a look at Craigdon website. Great spring/autumn windproof.
