I'll add a bit of reasoning to my post, but feel free just to post a band name, or explain if you want (just one of each per post please though). I may try them both out.

My like is one I've just recently heard on the radio and have listened to a few snippets, so not a definite yet, but I like enough of what I've heard to try the album.

The hate is a toss-up between two that are around at the moment and I just don't get it, yet they get raved about.

Like: The Afghan Whigs - Sheer emotional intensity. Greg Dulli writes love songs, but not in the conventional sense. Drawing on his seemingly endless experience of deeply dysfunctional relationships Dulli's explore themes of regret, revenge and hedonism. You can't go wrong with any of their albums, but for me Gentlemen (the regret album), Black Love (the revenge album) and 1965 (the hedonistic album) represent a holy trinity. Equal parts sinner and sinned against, his lyrcis are sublime.

Dislike: Embrace (the plodding sub-pubrock Huddersfield melody stranglers rather than the awesome Washington DC emo pioneers) - Why? Just listen to them.

Silver Sun! Now, there's a blast from ther past. Lava is one of my favourite singles of all time, for a while it seemed like they were a British Weezer (I'm thinking Blue/Pinkerton era). That debut album is brilliant.

I just asked for one of each - doesn't mean you have to pick your favourite.

It could be the first one that springs to mind, one that's currently in your CD player, or even one you haven't listened to for ages - maybe inspiring you to dig it out.

I'm sure you can use your imagination for a dislike.

Mark E Smith is blooming great Al! Good choice.

But Dark Side of the Moon is one of my favourite albums, with one of my favourite lines from any song

Another weird music thread. From STR's original post I thought he was looking for new stuff to listen to: I may try them both out.
And yet folk post Beatles, Clash, Oasis and other old, pointless stuff that he will have heard and no doubt made his mind up on long ago. Hmm.

Anyway

Nope, they are an indie band from the US. Not the best thing I've ever heard, but new and reasonably sexy.
