Would it not be simpler simply to access the info on the HMRC website? To be honest as an individual once you've paid Income Tax, VAT the remaining taxes are pretty small beer.

council, fuel

Thinking about it many of the taxes are double and triple taxation.

Why depress yourself! Two things are inevitable...death and taxes!

you could always become a traveller/ tramp

living off the land, bit of cash in hand work, stealing if necessary, pooing in a field etc

no need to pay tax then

It is a bit depressing, but you so often hear one political party accusing another of introducing this or that "stealth tax", got me wondering just how many taxes we pay on a day to day basis.

This is the list so far:

“Airplane Tax”
Air Passenger Duty
UK Passenger Service Charge
Insurance and Security surcharge
Fuel surcharge

Airport Tax
Corporation Tax
Council Tax,
Fuel Tax
Income Tax
Inheritance Tax
Insurance Tax

Stamp Duty Land Tax
Up to £125,000 0%
Over £125,000 to £250,000 1%
Over £250,000 to £500,000 3%
Over £500,000 4%

VAT (Std Rate) 17.5%
VAT (Reduced Rate) 5 %
Vehicle Tax

PS can we also have a list of all the stuff the State does that we benefit from? and then a list of all the stuff the State does that does not benefit us? And then if we abolish everything in the second category, we can abolish some of the taxes.

I pay income tax and employees national insurance contributions on my (very substantial) salary and bonuses.

I have in the past paid SDLT (which I don't much like doing).

If I make a stonking great wodge of profit on something I might one day have the pleasure of paying capital gains tax.

Most of the goods and services I buy carry some tax, some of them carry a lot of tax. I have a choice about buying these things, and the things that carry the highest tax are either bad for me personally or bad in some wider sense. It would clearly be fairer if the tax on these goods and services was reduced and the tax on my income (and any capital gains) was increased, but that would cost me a lot and I'd really notice.

I pay a (ridiculously small) local levy loosely based on the cost of my accomodation to pay a proportion of the costs of amentities provided locally. It would make sense from a subsidiarity and accountability point of view if theis portion of my tax bill increased considerably at the expense of the other elements. However, if this was done the fairness of the assessment would be problematic, and it would probably be better to assess liability on income rather than property value.

Our tax system is not particularly silly. 🙂
