MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
In honour of his passing, how about we argue about 'oo should play 'oo in your ideal film versions of his works!
Obvious starter for 1 - Vetinari to be played by Rickman.
Emma Watson - Tiffany Aching
Christopher Fairbank (Moxey from Auf Wiedersehen Pet) as Nobby Nobbs.
Obvious starter for 1 - Vetinari to be played by Rickman.
That sounds dreadful to me. I thought Charles Dance was about the right amount of evil and officious without being a pantomime baddy.
Nanny Ogg possibly Patsy Byrne or Myriam Margolis.
Maggie Smith as Granny Weatherwax. Maybe a little old now though.
The obvious one would be David Jason (as Del Boy) as CMOT Dibbler.
Rickman is Lord Downey (head of the assassins guild)
Capaldi as Vimes.
Scarlett as Angua
Mark Addy as Sergeant Colon?
Heath Ledger (RIP) as Carrot?
Melissa Rauch as Corporal Cherie
Karl Pilkington as Twoflower
Ian Richardson as Death
Rowan Atkinson as CMOT Dibbler
Mel Smith as Colon
Reginald D. Hunter as Death
Not an actress but when I think of lady Sybil, Claire Balding is exactly who goes through my head.
Mickey Rourke as Cohen.
Ridcully should have been Alastair Sim.
Gene Wilder would have been a great Rincewind, Stephen Mangan might be a good one now.
Miles Jupp as Ponder.
Bob Mortimer as Moist.
🙂
Brian blessed as Ridcully.
We're just watching the colour of magic, I think Jeremy irons is spot on as vetanari.
Karl Pilkington as Twoflower
YES!
Ian Richardson as Death
I always thought Patrick Stewart
matt berry as luggage (don't know whom luggage is,but my friend loves the character/pratchett novels).
ah just read up a bit on the luggage (discworld wiki) i stand by my choice 🙂
Sean Bean as Vimes?
Mickey Rourke as Cohen.
I was going to suggest David Bradley for Cohen
As long as I can have Tim Brooke-Taylor as Drumknott?
David Jason would be a good Vimes, I reckon.
I was thinking Prince Harry as Carrot
Bruce Willis as Vimes
Paddy Considine as Vimes?
Always seen Vetinari as bit Ian Richardson, tbh.
I would have liked to cast Karl Urban as Carrot. Think he may be getting a little old for it, sadly.
Sally Phillips as Magrat?
Was thinking Jane Horrocks, but she's a bit short.
Les Dawson as Nanny Ogg, obviously.
Paul McShane as Fred.
Michael Bentine as Otto.
Paddy Considine as Vimes?
Christ, Where's My Cow would be bloody terrifying.
David Jason would be a good Vimes, I reckon.
Vimes the hardened, unreformed, former alcoholic bubbling under with unknowable rage, constantlyrunning from his demons and capable of incredible physical aggression - David bloody Jason?
Vimes the hardened, unreformed, former alcoholic bubbling under with unknowable rage, constantlyrunning from his demons and capable of incredible physical aggression - David bloody Jason?
How about Ray Winstone then?
Moist Von Lipwig - Daniel Craig
The Librarian - Andy Serkis
And finally
Daft Wullie - (Feegle) - Jimmy Krankie
.......Crivens
A younger Gene Hackman could be my Vimes
I have created my own personas for all his characters the voices what they look like etc, find it really difficult to put real people into them
Sean bean is a great suggestion for vimes.
William d'word?
Harry king?
Leonard of quirm?
Actually, we could have Foxy Coxy as Ponder.
I reckon Dara O'Briain would make a good librarian.
Simon pegg as rincewind.
Dudley Moore as Rincewind
I had him pencilled in for Pteppic. And Natalie Portman as PtraciSimon pegg as rincewind.
Irons was spot on for Vetinari but I've always pictured Rincewind as the guy who used to play Catweazle, Geoffrey Bayldon.
I've got Gary Oldman in my head as Vimes or Carcer.
David Jason might have been Albert, but not Vimes.
I've got Gary Oldman in my head as Vimes or Carcer.
I can see him as Carcer, no question.
David Thewliss as Nobby?
After hearing the radio version of Good Omens at christmas its got to be Peter Serafinowicz as Crowley
John Thaw would have made a great Albert.
Or a cracking Vimes.
Penelope Keith as Weatherwax.
I thought this would be about commissioning a bronze hat & beard?
Is there a statue and a place to pay homage? Bloody should be.
I have never read any Pratchett. SO I have no idea whether these are good suggestions or not.
There. I've said it.
Imaginative fellow by all accounts. But I was more a Len Deighton man in my yoof...
Stoner, try Thud. Excellent crime novel, that just happens to be in the Discworld.
Damien lewis - Carrot
(Or maybe I could be deaths apprentice ? 🙂 )
I'd always thought Eric Idle would make a perfect Rincewind.
Good call whoever said Andy Serkis for the Librarian.
Ian Richardson for Death, obviously ( or perhaps Christopher Lee) just not sure who would play Binky though 😉
And while we are all casting, might I nominate Terry Gilliam to Direct...
muddy@rseguy - MemberI'd always thought Eric Idle would make a perfect Rincewind.

That was me but good call back for Eric as Rincewind, perfect casting
I'd always thought Eric Idle would make a perfect Rincewind.
You play the computer game?
Albert should be an old surly ****er. David Bradley?
Robert Carlyle as Wee Mad Arthur - he's basically a 6" Begbie.
Ewan McGregor as Rob Anybody.
Pete Postlethwaite as Wilikins.
Eddie Redmayne in young Hawkins mode for Ponder Stibbons
I feel like Simon Pegg should be in this film but I can't decide on who he should play.
My choice for Vimes would be Liam Neeson I think although I'm not entirely convinced I'm right on that one.
Vetinari would be Leo DiCaprio when he's a bit older or maybe Christoph Waltz?
Les Dawson as Nanny Ogg
Superb.
You're all wrong! It needs to be kept inside your heads not "acted" out by luvvvies. Worst thing about Pratchett books were the covers, I used to try desperately not to look at them! And as for the bloody tv stuff...

Whilst the Josh Kirby ones are a bit dated (though i still like them) - the Paul Kidby ones are ace!
Andre the Giant basically was Detritus.
david jey - MemberLes Dawson as Nanny Ogg
Superb.
it is, but I can't reconcile it with a younger 'homely' and predatory Miss Ogg.
cb - MemberYou're all wrong! It needs to be kept inside your heads not "acted" out by luvvvies.... And as for the bloody tv stuff...
TBH +1, enjoyed the TV stuff but the actor/charaters weren't right for me and there is definitely no one (well no one mentioned on this thread) who could play Nobby Nobs
Nanny: Liza Tarbuk
I always had Ray Winston down as Vimes and Robert Carlyle as Vetinari
And when reading Going Postal I pictured David Tennant as Moist von Lipwig, but after reading Steam I'm not so sure.
Could work though, with a bit of imagination.
Nanny: Liza Tarbuk
No.
Brendan Gleeson for Colon?
Jeremy Irons as Vetinari (again)
Brian Blessed as Ridcully (seconded)
Maggie Smith as Granny Weatherwax (possible seconding?)
Simon Pegg as Rincewind
Rest I have no idea of.
cb - it's a bit of fun, chill. Agree the TV series wasn't cast right but then I suppose we all have different pictures of the characters in our heads.
Viggo Mortensen is Vimes, the juxtaposition from the LotR is classic!
They all look like they do in my head, not like actors, so none of the casting works out. Except Vimes, he's Ken Stott in good shape (disclaimer- it's entirely possible none of the character descriptions are like that at all. Doesn't matter) . So is Rebus for that matter.
(except Rincewind, I've never know why but for some reason I always visualise him as a big triangle, sort of like Wizbit)
Nanny: Liza Tarbuk
No.
Maybe more Agnes/Perdita Nitt? Or perhaps Caitlin Moran for that.
For wizards, and following on from Brian Blessed for Ridcully, just use the entire male supporting case of Blackadder reserving Rowan Atkinson for Vetinari:
Tony Robinson as Rincewind
Stephen Fry as the Dean
Hugh Laurie as the Bursar
Tim McInnerny as the Senior Wrangler
etc...They've all aged by about the right amount too.
there is definitely no one (well no one mentioned on this thread) who could play Nobby Nobs
Steve Buscemi, possibly. Though yes, probably not.
Except Vimes, he's Ken Stott in good shape
Yes, that's more like how I picture him - all the other suggestions are too "action hero".
Agree with that, that's kind of why I thought of Ray Winston, but Stott is a good option.Except Vimes, he's Ken Stott in good shape
