Has any body got/know of any good ones which aren't really expensive
I thought I'd be able to get something decent for £50ish

I've currently got a 300-400ish watt halogen one and I'd like to replace it for something a bit more efficient with a similar output. Considering what DealExtream seem to be able to do I didn't think I'd be expecting the earth but I can't find much that isn't rubbish or £100+

I've found things with arrays of hundreds 😯 of LEDs which are ok price wise but have rubbish beam patterns and output or some good 12LED ones at about 30Watts but cost about £150

Steinel have one in their range, they're a top quality (German) manufacturer but this is reflected in the price 🙂 About a ton for their LED floodlight I believe.

I fitted a number of these, http://www.steinel.de/en/produkte_fuer_heimwerker/sensorleuchten/sensorstrahler_led/xled_home_1

The quality of these is fantastic and being LED's the light is a very bright white rather than the yellowy light emmitted by halogens.

Comparing watts to lumens is very difficult, but the light quality from these lamps is great.

Sorry Allthepies you beat me to it!

Nothing to stop you plugging a bastid into a wallwart power supply and fixing it up as an outside light .

Or chucking a couple of good leds into an old halogen case with a driver and power it from a dc supply as above.

cheers all, £100 is a bit much at the mo for the Steinel, I can't be bothered with DIY light stuff 😳 , new house I've got enough DIY to do as it is. Off the shelf is what I was after.

I was quite supprised there wasn't more about, B&Q didn't have a single energy saving flood light and only a couple of CFL lights which are just about good enough to see a path and not much else

there're 101 different options for in house energy saving lights but a pretty small and bad range of stuff for outside lights

We have the 10W light. Well I bought one exactly the same from City electrical and paid £70-80.

Works pretty well. Not as bright as the 500w unit it replaced but with the amount of energy it saves I'm happy to compromise.

How about this for a cheaper solution:

Are you sure you need something that bright?

We've got one of the multi LED ones and it's quite bright enough for most purposes although I wouldn't want to read a book by it. If we were replacing it I'd probably have a look at one of these.

ohhh the dealextreme stuff looks good cheers
why didn't I look there first 🙄 I even mentioned in in my OP

@Rio absolutely no street lighting + I want to be able to get a bit of gardening done in the evenings which is a bit difficult without some proper light I've done a few bits with my ay-ups but a decent flood would be sooo much better and It'll only be on now and then when I'm doing stuff
