Found conflicting advice on this
I'm switching broadband to Sky but use my bt mail for most things
Any words of wisdom?

I've also heard different accounts, and it's one reason that my missis doesn't want to move away from [s]the robbing sods[/s] BT.

My advice to her, and to you is if/when it does happen, get a gmail hotmail, or similar non tied in account for life.

Not a great deal of help, sorry.

Probably. When I moved from Virgin Media I got to keep my old blueyonder email addresses for a while though.

Either swap to Gmail / Hotmail or set up your own domain.

Already have a Hotmail
Problem is I haven't a clue how many things I've used the bit one for
Wondering if Bt can be forwarded on to Hotmail while I gradually change them over

move to gmail, set your BT to forward mails to a folder on your gmail, then notify those you want to of the change of address and sod the rest.

Which is what i do, i have 3 or 4 gmail accounts, two hotmails and one from our ISP.

All appear in the same inbox.

Overall wisdom is to move to hotmail or gmail (I prefer hotmail) in the long run so that regardless of broadband your email doesn't change.

Ivd had heartache with going from bt to sky to bt as broadband suppliers but keeping the Bt mail account throughout. Cause my bt mail account is so old it doesn't transfer over to the newer bt mail systems.

It's been quite good though as for all the mail that comes in to the old bt, I can then either change the email address on the account or unsubscribe the old email. Over the last few months it's drastically cleaned up the junk email.

Pay a few quid a year for your own domain name and redirect emails to whatever address your current ISP supplies.

This. Moving to a Gmail or Yahoo address is just tying you to a different provider, who you may get fed up with in the future.

We moved to sky broadband earlier in the year from BT. 6 months later our @btinternet.com account still works as normal. Haven't changed anything just carried on as normal.

True, but it's quite possible that there were a great many BT email accounts still in their records from when BT used Yahoo as their email provider.

Yeah. It's the 2014 hack. Just saw a headline about half a billion yahoo user accounts compromised. Didn't read the article.
