Anyone else spend an evening watching these shows happy that the uk is not as ****ed up as the US, then wondering if the problem here is there is no one shining a light on how ****ed up we are.

Different sets of probs but we are just as screwed we just don't have a high budget funny and interesting programme to tell us about it.

I seem to be developing a somewhat intense political man-crush on Mr Oliver.

I love the show's gleeful sense of mischief and irreverence that balances brilliantly with the deadly earnest issues it addresses. I'd imagine that working on it must be very stressful but a whole world of fun.

Jon Stewart will be missed, but John Oliver and his team are carrying the torch brilliantly.

Oh BTW if Youtube won't let you watch a Last Week tonight video due to regional restrictions just search for it on DailyMotion.

Charlie brooker doesn't even come close, he may have the odd sarcastic whine about celebrity culture and that's about it.

100% Agreed, there's more to political satire than channeling your misanthropy.

John Oliver seems to genuinely be having the time of his life presenting that show and his glee at the cool stuff they dig up (both serious and deeply silly) is what makes you pay attention when he's being serious.
