Myself, Mrs FJ and Denzel the Staffie are off to the lakes next Saturday for a weeks walking and scenery enjoying type holiday. Never been before and although I realise the place is covered with fantastic walks and scenery I wondered if any of you can recommend any 2-3 hour walks that you have done in the area that were especially amazing?!

Thanks
FJ

Walk advice - take the bike 😉

Failing that, I'm not sure... although integrating the lakeside around Ulswater is recommended 🙂

From Grasmere and up/back down Helm Crag
From Ambleside up the back of Loughrigg Fell and back down via Loughrigg Terrace
From Keswick get the ferry down to Hawes End and follow the lake path back to Portinscale and Keswick
From Keswick get the ferry down to Hawes End up Catbells and back down to ferry

Blencathra via Sharp Edge if you're adventurous - my favourite walk/scramble in the Lakes. Maybe not one to take a dog on though, I dunno.

Something around Langdale is always good imo - up from the New Dungeon Ghyll and around the top of Pavey Ark perhaps.

Helm Crag and Loughrigg are good shouts as well.

Wasdale is indeed lovely but depending on where you're staying might take a while to get to.

It kinda depends where your staying really,as narrow roads dont lend themselves to getting anywhere quickly, the central lakes offer plenty of great walks though,Any route that stays up high on a ridge and is a relative circuit will be a great day out.

Langdales is always good as grum says, its fairly easy to access and has some great pubs, campsites, theres a handy shop in chapel stile with good cafe upstairs. 😉

have a good time!

Were staying in the South-East corner near Kendal.
I believe the place is called Brigsteer (from memory).

First things first...Bike shops:- you'll not be far from Staveley...so Wheelbase (and Wilfs cafe), Bike Treks and Ghylside in Ambleside and KMB in Keswick.

As already said - Loughrigg Terrace, Ambleside towards Skelworth Bridge over the tops is a nice one (note good cafe besides kirkstone quarries at Skelworth Bridge). Nice stroll from Skelworth Bridge to Elterwater and back (cafe one end , Brittania the other !

I love the Langdales, near to you is Arnside though, park at Arnside, and do the cliff walk to Silverdale along the coast, have dinner at The Silverdale hotel then back through the village pick up eaves wood through holgates caravan site, past arnside tower, over arnside knott and back to arnside, pint in the Albion, or there is this which is same walk http://www.walkingbritain.co.uk/walks/walks/walk_b/2511/

+1 for the Langdales, real dramatic and there is plenty of options for the length etc
