Planning on going away for a week in March with the OH. Managed to convince her to go somewhere that i can take my bike, but i'm struggling to find somewhere nice enough for her to agree to stay in.

Ideally, 1 bedroom, lake view, £400 or less for about 4 nights.

Anyone been anywhere worth visiting?

Stayed in a lovely bothy up near Ulphe in a place called Woodend.

The lakes are not strictly in view, but it is reasonably close to them and there are a lot of hills nearby.

Have a look at Crummock Water Cottages.

T'other half and myself have stayed there for the last few years when we go up to the Lakes, and have always found it to be just about perfect. I can't recommend them enough.

Of course it helps that it's just down the road from Whinlatter, and walking distance from the Kirkstile Inn... :o)

The cottages are normally let out for the whole week, but if you give Joan a call and she has something free, I'm sure she'd be able to help you out with a shorter stay, she's always been very flexible for us.

This place is really great. You can ride up the hill behind and onto the Grizedale tracks too. The view from the cottages is amazing.

Not a cottage as such but we stayed here http://www.bll.ac/ in November and were going back next monday for a 4 night break. Lakeside lodges are on the waters edge and very spacious.

£299 for 4 nights off season.

We (Kendal Cottages) would have loved to have accommodate you but I'm afraid we're already fully booked.

Our accommodation is beautifully finished and has a lovely river view, rather than a lake, but does weigh in at well under £400 for a Monday-Friday break in March.

Please keep us in mind for another occasion if you like what you see.

I've stayed here: www.nearhowe.co.uk loads over the last 5 or 6 years.

No lake views, but v quiet, tucked out the way, easy to get to and some nice routes in the north lakes nearby (you can do skiddaw from the house with a short (quiet) road section.

Good pub down the road, dog friendly and somewhere to stick your bikes.

Steve and Jill mega helpful and great hosts.

If going in March you'll probably be surrounded by fields of lambs.

Glad you've had a good time there Nick - that's my mother's place!

This year there's some additional space available for use as secure bike storage too.

pdw... I think you must be following me, you gave me the original suggestion to go there a few years ago on UKC! It was after we went and were chatting to your Mum that she said that it must have been you who tipped us off!

I still remember the first morning we woke up there, after getting there in the dark, to be greeted by that stunning view down Buttermere... ace!

When you speak to her next, say hi from Nick and Liz for me... :o)

I don't think that was me, but is UKC a climbing site? If so, that would have been my brother 😀
