I use macs and want my own cloud it seems the cloudbox and mycloud are the leading ones but which ones best? i want to get access from my ipad and iphone I've heard the app for the lacie cloudbox is a bit rubbish. Any experiences with either? Could i use a mac mini in the same way? would it be better?

I'm currently looking into NAS solutions and have looked at the WD MyCloud (not looked at the LaCie one).

I found a really long, detailed review of the WD one, that basically said that while it was very good, there were a few annoying niggles.

The thing that put me off is that you can't map it as a network drive, so you can't see it just by opening Windows Explorer. You have to use the WD software I think, which seems a bit crap to me.

The Synology NAS boxes seem to get the best write-ups, but are a bit more money and generally don't come with drives.
