I thought my knee pain (on the outside of my knee) was ITB, everyone kept telling me so, but I realised today that it's actually on the top of my lower leg not the bottom of my thigh. Looking at this picture it seems to be the Lateral Collateral Ligament:

Most stuff online refers to specific injuries from football or rugby, but I have had no such injury. I get it after 30-45 mins of running, depending on how fast I am going. Comes on fairly rapidly, and I can limit the pain by running quite flat footed and more slowly.

Anyone else get this?

Superior tib-fib joint is more likely.

go and get a diagnosis of someone who knows. self diagnosis from the internet especially for orthopaedic stuff is daft. could be anyone of a dozen things and very unlikely to be that liganment I would have thought

Actually, now that I think about it. It is most definitely OA.

TJ, not many sports injury specialists open at 11pm 🙂 I will get it looked at, but I am asking on here just cos.

It's very localised, to the top of the fibula. I can put my finger on the pain and I can feel the top of the bone.

I'm googling OA now.

EDIT: Osteoarthritis? You wot?

I put up with crippling knee pain and mis-diagnosis from Gp/Physio for 2 years.
Paid to see consultant orthapaedic surgeon and he diagnosed me in about 5 minutes and operated 10 days later 😀 .
And I raced 3peaks cx 5 weeks after that (although he shouted at me at my check when I told him 😳 )
A plica btw.

On a more serious note. I'd be guessing its a hamstring related problem. Or bursitis.

It can't be bursitis, I don't think. It's on the very outside of my knee just under the skin.

I was told I had a Bursitis..........

turned out I'd fractured my Patella in three places, rode for six months with considerable pain.saw consultant, who correctly diagnosed it,operated 48 hrs later.feels 95% now, five months later.second opinion is your friend.

Its galloping dandruff with associated stagnation of the lungs.

Its probably osteomylitus actually - or maybe padgets disease

I'm going to try and find a running specialist physio or some such person.
