Hi

We've been quoted £4k by our usual builder, who has not ripped us off yet, to rip out the old kitchen approx. 3m x 3m in size, plaster, tile, electrical work (new lights), move cooker (new gas pipes), lay floor and install new kitchen. This doesn't include the cost of the new kitchen, tiles, appliances etc.

This seems a lot to me? Any builders on here?

So £4k for his [s]labour[/s] expertise?

Ask how long it will take.

It seems a lot to me but that counts for jack.

If you think it's dear then it's probably overpriced. I'd say get some more quotes rather than ask a load of armchair experts on the internet...

Your best bet is to get at least three quotes for the same work from other builders. Rather then speculate from forum we cant see the work needed

It does sound a lot, that's not a big kitchen. However, additional electrical work, gas piping etc will require other people unless he's got all the tickets, so that will add to the cost. More quotes, pick the middle one. 🙂

That's all fiddly stuff. You get a lot more brick walls for your money.

I`d get a quote from the kitchen company too......

We used to do all that lot and more when we were fitting 😀

I fitted my own kitchen recently which involved moving all the services from one room to another and having a new electric consumer unit.

Costs were;

Gas: £250
Electric: £1200 (complete check of whole house, new armoured cable to shed, new wiring to new location of kitchen etc)
Plastering: £250 - skim new room after electrician had been through cutting holes and grooves.

probably took me 10 days to do all of the fitting of new kitchen (including plumbing), flooring, glass splashbacks and upstands etc.

£4k doesn't sound too bad?
