Moral dilema.......... Lets say you (hypothetically) ordered some items from a supplier, and through their mistake when they loaded the goods into your car you ened up receiving an extra item that you hadn't ordered or paid for. You don't realise this until a point later when you are at home and have unloaded/unpacked.

Do you take this good fortune as karmic reward for good deeds you have previously done?

Or do you to take it back to the supplier rebuking your good fortune and possibly offending the karma gods for not being open to receiving your rewards?

Does the value of the item factor in? An extra packet of tea bags from Tesco verses a new TV from John Lewis.

It's made up, so, baring a massive coincidence, probly doesn't exist.

You're mixing ethics up with someone doing you a favour.

whatever the value it's theft, let's be clear about that BUT if it was me it would depend on the value. I wouldn't take a bic biro back but I would take a box of 500 back.

So what was it? the stw confession crew will now hear your plea.

I think what you're asking is "should I do the right thing or steal something?". Although I'd guess this is just made up, you can probably guess where I fall on the matter

A lot of suppliers charge a re-stocking fee when you return an item, You could save them some money by keeping it 😈

Honestly, low value item I'd just keep, higher value then give them a call and see what they want to do

Depends on the store , the item , the value, do i need or want it and various other stuff.

If it was my LBS/a small shop I would take it back.

For karmic reasons you need to either return it or pas son the gift

What, from whom and how far? Might cost more time and fuel to return it. However, fundementally, it's not yours. Give them the opportunity to collect it at your convenience. It might not be worth their while.

I think what you're asking is "should I do the right thing or steal something?"

I read this:

Do you take this good fortune as karmic reward for good deeds you have previously done?

.. more as "I am so wonderfully wonderful that I should be allowed to steal something, right?"

If you have morals there is no dilemma.

everything is made of energy... protons and neutrons and that

if we put out negative energy into the cosmos by being 'orrible and that.. we are sending a little wave out which will undoubtedly return to us at some point.. like a ripple in the ocean

nicking stuff off corporations doesn't come into it.. cos it's material stuff which is always verging on bad energy innit, cos it's not very holy and corrupts the soul and that..

nick what you want mate as long as you're not hurting anyone.. I'd be giving it straight back probably to avoid anyone getting into trouble for their mistake

(some fascist unevolved breadhead will pipe up in a minute about the knock on effect to the consumer and stealing and whathaveyou, but you can ignore them cos their priorities are so karmically and morally ****ed that it's like listening to the advice of a bloody woodlouse or summink)

God doesn't reward you by getting people to mistakenly give you extra stuff. She will punish you if you don't do the right thing though.

💡 Keep the karmic vibe moving by freely giving the item to someone else who is in need of said item. Your mission now, is to find a person in need of your item, the more needy the better.

Keep the Karma going when someone places you bike in the back of their car 'by accident' don't expect them to return and be happy knowing the karma has been passed on.

The Op's done one, come on, we want to know what it is?
Perhaps waiting to see what the consensus is before revealing.

I bought a couple of Mavic HC jersey's from my LBS last year, when I got home I checked the reciept and found they'd only charged me for one.
I went back the next day and paid for the other one.
I wouldn't expect them to steal from me, why would I steal from them?

Do you take this good fortune as karmic reward for good deeds you have previously done?

Or do you to take it back to the supplier rebuking your good fortune and possibly offending the karma gods for not being open to receiving your rewards?

Or a karmic test - do the right thing to prevent future disaster.

Karma is obviously bobbins but helps to make sense of the world I guess. I personally used up all my karmic goodwill doing a bad bad thing years ago so am now condemned to a life of moral correctness.

I already decided what I was going to do.

What happened was.....
On tuesday the missus picked up a click and collect order from Screwfix for me. I told her it was a saw and accessories. She later told me they kindy offered to put the box in the boot for her as it was heavy. I said I was surprised it was that heavy (it was just a recipricating saw and some spare blades as far as I was aware). I'd been working all week and at the weekend I went to get the saw of her car. As well as the saw and blades I'd ordered was a Makita combo kit.

It would be very useful to me, and I'll likely end up buying one or two of the items at some point when funds allow and I can justify the cost for the job in hand (like the job that justified the recip saw). So yes the thought of keeping it did cross my mind, but it wouldn't sit right with me.

It did raise thoughts about which situations/circumstances it would be morally ok to accept good fortune that comes your way, which prompted the post.

I don't do good deeds in the expectation of or to be deserving of some karmic reward (as suggested above), but would like to beleive (or is it hope?) that what goes around does indeed come around, in both the good and bad deed sense. Part of that philosophy is being open to receiving what comes your way, again good or bad. What is the sayin..... don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

In this case item in question has a value of £700. Would it be different if it was just a biro as mentioned above? To be honest in my case it would be, I would keep the biro. Which raises the question where is the line? Somewhere between a biro and 700 quid for me.

Edit: And I have done some not to good stuff in my earlier life too, so maybe I'm not in credit to be receiving any karmic rewards anyway. I wonder if Experian keep karmic credit history 😉
