I had my first job interview this afternoon, got an offer. Trouble is, I need a solid income that's guaranteed week in week out, the job is as a subcontractor. No guarantee of any income. The only certainty is Welfare won't support me if I take it.
Should I try or should I refuse? What would you do? Ok, not telling the Welfare is one option but a bit naughty.

How good is the pay?

How likely is it to give you a decent income over the year?
How much do you need a new job?

Do you have any reserves for the months of little earnings?

You had to have a job interview to be a subby?

Jeez, this country really is falling apart.

Well my thoughts would be for this for what its worth to maybe consider the following questions :-

1) If you take it will you be earning more money than you are now?
2) How frequent will the work be?
3) Will there be opportunities to make it full time?
4) Could you apply for other more solid jobs whilst holding this one?

I get live for another month off my savings, the company is fast-growing and EVERYBODY started as a subby, in case they were rubbish (we did similar when we ran a business in UK).
I need a job more than I need food, it's eating me alive not having one.
I can potentially make quite a bit, but may also not make much at all.
I'm wondering if I should invest a few days (a week, two) and see for myself. I can always inform the Welfare a bit late, can't I?
The good thing is the owner is a very hot English girl from London and we clicked immediately (oi, you, at the back, behave!). The working hours also leave the mornings to look for a different job if needed.

Well it seems to me you have answered your own question!!! Take it though Im not sure about not letting on to the welfare? Ive never been on it (luckily!) so how hard is it to get on and off? Or am I just being a wuss and thinking you will get caught?

In Ireland everybody seems to be on Welfare ATM. If I don't tell them I run a risk of an overpayment which I'll need to repay, I've checked. It doesn't scare me too much, many have done it.
I think you're right, I probably know the answer. Sometimes though, it's better to be told/advised/confirmed, at least in my case.

I know, mate! I'm old-fashioned and believe in being responsible for my actions regardless of who and what advised/suggested.

1. If they aren't offering you any guarantee of income they can hardly complain if you leave when you find something better ?

2. They are obviously desparate for some chump using his lower brain for thinking to take the job if they are sending Mata Hari in for the interviews.

Take the job and try using upstairs brain for these decisions !!

In the meantime I got another offer 🙂
To teach the local Polish people some English, which is far more appealing.
2nd interview on Monday (first one was over the phone, poor thing thought I was a Londoner 🙂 ). Smart, professional, calm and good-looking. Should be enough 😆

Go for the "Mind your language 2011" as it sounds more interesting.

Congratulations. What ever you decide tell the Walfare as soon as. My friend didn't in case he didn't like the new job, in the end he lost both.

Crikey. You must be stressed. Honestly, I didn't mean in a bad way as I just remembered the teacher being a nice guy that's all 😯 . Very patience and polite so I am not sure why you think otherwise if I interpret your response correctly. Yes, the sitcom was funny I must admit.

Stereotypical? Well everyone can do that if they want in a negative way so if you got easily wound up then you have applied for a wrong job as a teacher.

p/s:

Smart, professional, calm and good-looking. Should be enough

This IS a wind-up ... Oh no you're not! (pantomime mode)

catflees, that's my thinking, I can't do dishonest, it just isn't me. Karma etc.
chewkw, loosen up. You started piss-taking so be prepared to have some taken. Besides, in Eire everybody and his dog ****s all the time.
12 years of teaching says it's the right job. You just didn't get it. No worries 🙂

Phew! I am fine with me being piss taken as I thought for a moment you were getting very serious there. (missed the meaning of your thread ... LOL!)

D'oh! You're right. Yes, it's all **** this **** that at your local at the moment. LOL! Particularly at this downturn.

In that case you will be fit for the job ... make sure you start introducing **** this and **** that particularly for EURO.

🙂

I'm thinking were I single the first job would be fine (no responsibilities) but married with a kid? A position, not just a job, is what's required. My grandad would've been proud of me were he alive. Just to think of him praising me....
- Get the ****in job you little ****. WHAT? A ****in teacher? Fer **** sake, you should've gone to a proper school instead of this dung your mother chose. ****in useless, not worthy of being my grandson. Ant to think you could AND SHOULD have become an accountant.... Gerrout of my sight!!!
Brings a tear to my eye to think I might be teaching when he's being munched on by all sorts of creepy crawlies 😈
