Years back I was so excited at 4g that I had to share on here.
No I've got 5g I'm in a similar state of excitement.
Thanks must go to a stwer who pointed me to the deal.

Those pings in the first image are pretty grim. However fast the download speed is it going to feel pretty slow for anything other than just downloading large chunks of data. One of the main improvements of 5G over 4G is meant to be the latency, so the 4 ms in rocketdogs image is much more like it.

I've found it pretty underwhelming tbh. Doesn't seem to do anything any faster than when we first got 4g

switched mine off, 4g is more than ample and less of a drain on the battery.
but it is crazy fast when I do switch it on

It's more about network performance/coverage really, rather than weather it's 4g or 5g.

I've always found 4g to be plenty good enough so I've not bothered chasing a phone that does 5g.

Although my phone will be replaced in the next few months so a new one will likely be 5g capable by default anyway..

I’ll see your 146Mbps and raise you…

Speedtest

That’s indoor as well. It’s actually (and annoyingly) faster than my 900Mbps broadband if I’m using WiFi in the house and I’ve got a stupid fast WiFi 6 mesh system that I’m sat only 2m from one of the nodes.

Not bad for £6 a month on Smarty.

Haven't you just used about 20% of your monthly data allowance by running that speedtest?

Unlikely, The download speed on the above result is 798mega bits per second, but to measure that it will have only downloaded about *300MB, or about a 3rd of a gigabyte.

In general, the up and down tests are each run for 15 seconds as fast as it can, or until it down/uploaded *300 MB.

So, assuming you have a symmetrical 100 Mbps (up&down) line, the speedtest would use 15s * 100 Mbps = 1500 Mbit = 187.5 MB in each direction.

*depending on which speed test you use...of course if you keep running speed tests repeatedly it will add up quickly if using mobile data.

EDIT, although the above test appears to have downoaded 800 odd MB of test data which seems pretty excessive!

The screenshot shows that 829Mb of data was used.

Just spotted that! edited my post...it seems a bit excessive if that's an accurate figure!

On wi-fi it doesnt matter, but if you only have say 10GB per month mobile data, 10 speed tests and you've pretty much used your whole monthly allowance!

You lot have scared me. Apparently I've used 400 mb today.
Thought I'd check my other settings and wtf is going on with face book?
How do I stop it being so greedy?

I deleted my account and disabled the app 🙂

Oh and your pic shows WiFi data use, not mobile. You should be able to see both sets of data...

Yeah. Doesn’t matter though, I don’t use much mobile data regularly. So I have the base plan normally and then buy bigger bundles when I need it.

Facebook is super greedy for slurping data..

I still have an account with FB, but I've uninstalled the app on my phone. The app is horrendous and purposefully difficult to manage, because they are in the business of data hoovering, it's as simple as that.

If I want to look at Facebook on my mobile, I'll log in via Opera browser in private mode.

It's a faff to log in, that way as I have a wait for a 2fa text message code but such is life.

I don't need or want to look at it aside from when I choose too.

And when I do choose too, I'd rather run it in an incognito sand box mode.
