Just downloaded 3 albums and some of the songs are cut short.
When listening to the songs the counter says there's 2minutes left then it goes onto the next song.
Have checked on the available downloads and it says it's all up to date.

Other than send an email to apple (who I now hate) I don't have a clue. Bought stuff from there myself and had several problems

Sounds like corrupted files - can you download them again?

It doesn't do it on every song.
It would be so easy if once you had purchased it you could download it whenever you wanted.
Also a lot of downloads and stuff I've put on can't be found by iTunes.

In what sense? Album artwork? Itunes can hardly be blamed for your indifferent MP3 naming/titling attitudes
Not that I'm happy to defend itunes, as it's lack of flexibility is a pain in the proverbial back side.

If I click on certain songs a little exclamation mark comes up and says it can't locate the file. I certainly haven't moved it.

Sounds like you library is corrupt.

Apple support nearly always has an answer.

Have you changed the destination of any new songs? The exclamation mark means (generally) file has been moved or deleted

Yep, once you've bought something from iTunes it's stored in the cloud and you can download it anytime.

I am a complete numpty when it comes to computers so I never press any buttons that I don't know. Last night I did manage to copy the whereabouts of the songs and get the computer to search for it. Couldn't find it. Songs are still on iPod so its not the end of the world. Can I load from pod to pooter?

Ahaaa, I can sympathise with that... My own itunes moan...

From Dezb's link:

Sometimes though, it seems iTunes loses track of files for no apparent reason. In that case, other than telling iTunes where they are on a one by one basis, your only other option is to start with a new iTunes library. Regrettably, this method will lose your playlists and related information (Ratings, Play Counts, Dates Last Played, etc.).

In my case this is more than a little annoying, as itunes decided that huge amounts where no longer exactly where they always were, & as scanning my MP3 collection take more than a day that not a great fix & ridiculous to try and fix every individual track... (I have since backed up my itunes library files, after a lengthy new scan, to put back in place rather than re-scan).

Most ipods can (or used to be) accessible via windows without too much trouble (search google), so you could copy them straight off. Iphones have there music files encrypted, though IIRC there are utils to get round this.

On itunes on the left select purchased when the list appears look down the bottom in the middle windows in the right hand corner you'll see download previous purchases.

Sounds to me your music is still there, the 2 links I provided above have an easier fix then downloading again for the missing ones.

'Cloud' is basically online storage, where items installed on one device are available on others you own. like Photostream, where photos taken on an iphone are then available on an iPad and/or any Macs you might own.
A NAS HDD is a personal 'Cloud' device, when it has its own app that lets you access files stored on it from any network connection.

Yes,usually via third-party 'ware. This was Apple's way of getting round the restrictions put on digital downloads by the record industry to prevent 'piracy', in the same way that you could get around the DRM on music bought from iTunes.
Not an issue since April '10.

Ok what's a cloud and how do I get it?

good question... I was going to word it differently but people seem to be so cloud-aware (not a real phrase) these days.

When you buy something from iTunes, it's always available on the internet for you to download with er, iTunes...

can I just address another itunes issue you mentioned on the backup thread (you have a username that tends to draw my eye... not stalking really)

ITunes always says back up purchases. I have absolutely no idea of what they are on about or how to do it.
Enlightenment please.

Everything you need to backup for itunes (setting & music imported/purchased), unless you changed the default setting during the installation, will be within
[Win7] C:\Users\USERNAME[eg: zippykona]\My Music\Itunes

Backup those files/folder, and it where you should start searching for your music, when trying to get rid of those "!" without a complete rescan.
