When I plug my iPhone 5 or iPad into iTunes it shows the music in each device but when i unplug the device the library disappears in its not held in iTunes. It always used to be and would just transfer automatically
So when I plug my new iphone6s into iTunes I can't transfer the music.
Any tips on what I'm doing wrong.

Hard to diagnose from here. Do you sync the phone to itunes ? Is this music you have "ripped" or is it bought from itunes store ? Is your computer itunes logged into your itunes account ? As youbsay you shoukd see your music under the music tab in itunes without the phone connected

It's music I have ripped from CDs and always used to just sit in iTunes and I could access it/play it etc.
I downloaded an update of iTunes this week and my library disappeared.
As I said if I plug in a device I can see the music but if I disconnect it's gone.
I can't see a way to "transfer" from the device back into iTunes.
Computer is logged onto iTunes account but when I plug the new phone in and sync it doesn't pull the music in because it's not there anymore.
