Been on the look out for an patio door replacement (hence the recent bifold thread) and I think it heard me as it's now locked and can't be opened... Anyone have any idea how to force the mechanism of one of the 90's aluminium sliding doors that has a little lever in the handle?

At least it is secure, so could be worse!

I don't think they are ever secure are they, I'm sure once you have the replacement it could easily be dislodged from it's runners with a little persuasion!

If it's listening to you, just threaten it with a hammer unless it unlocks itself 🔨🔨😀

If it has a standard euro cylinder lock you can sometimes remove the face plate on the inside to expose enough of the lock to grab it with mole grips to snap the lock in half; then you can get in to unlock it with pliers.

I did this in a new house with a patio door for which we didn't have the key. Snapping the lock was a doddle; opening the lock after that was a faff but was doable; installing a new lock was dead easy.

Patio door, dig it out with a spade.

As above, it's it's a cheap Eurocylinder then a lump hammer and a drift will snap it in half in seconds.

On mine, the little lever in the handle simply drops a hook over a bit in the frame, quite flimsy. You may be able to free it by pushing the door towards the frame (with a jack, gently?), i.e. closing it tighter, to release the hook thingy. Otherwise brute force and ignorance usually works!

It's not the lock that doesn't operate (good job as it's an Avocet ABS), it's the little uppy downy lever that moves without actuating the mechanism. I've taken the handle off and there are 2 holes with moving bits but I've not figured that out yet. Moving it towards the frame doesn't seem to have any effect either. Oh bum. I think integra's idea is the best.
