Let's celebrate with The Plank
Saw him in a live stage show 40 years ago. He had a straight part playing a police inspector, but he did this thing when he opened his note book whilst twiddling a finger and it had the whole place in stitches.
Also, as he was deaf he relied on lip reading to get his cues, and the cast kept turning their backs on him so he had to manoeuvre around the set. It was obviously scripted, but it was hysterical.
I can highly recommend his autobiography - "If I don't write it nobody else will"
He was on a radio 4 extra programme today - was a brilliant half hour followed by the Goon Show episode he co-wrote. No doubt available on BBC sounds.

I'm so glad you mentioned The Plank. It's genius.
