Wow, that didn't take long... 🤣

I'm liking the shiny new look!

Shame it seems to be the same software underneath, I'm sure there's loads of improvements STW would like to make but can't - a new lick of paint is welcome though 👍

Too many lines and too much text on the forum list. It makes it much too hard to scan.

The thread pages are ok though.

Thought it was just me.

Looks a bit busy, and doesnt fit a wide screen monitor. 1/2 my screen is just blank grey (maybe thats where all the ads will start appearing ?)

Impressed there wasnt any down time though

Edit: just checked on my iphone, looks way to busy and not easy to see thread titles etc.

STW has looked unique for years (good IMO) this makes it look a bit like any other forum

No back to the top button or menu pop out to get back to front page.

Nothing on the internet since 1998 is like the Lings website. But that's the charm...

I really ****ing like it. Well not really that much, but figured I’d try some user testing there

Edit: I assume hitting the wee person icon at the top right should take me to a profile page? Isnae working for me if that’s the case, does nothing

Edit 2: actually works from the higher levels but not within threads

A bit more contrast would be nice - grey on grey on grey is a bit grey! 🙂

TBF, it was posted in the pinned story up top that we'd be getting the painters in...

We have plans.
The best way to ensure sustainability is to adapt and there are changes on the way. First of all, there’s a new look to the website coming. The decorators are in and in the next few weeks we will be launching the new site theme. We hope you are going to like it – it will organise our content better and make it easier to find stuff.

Still, change is change and some can't deal with that 🤣

As regards Android/Chrome..

Font seems bigger - good for my aging eyesight.

Fewer posts on index page but more detail on each.

Edit/Report/Reply buttons are thin black text in dark mode and very difficult to see.

We could still do with a "show me unread posts on this thread" button.

Unexpected change(vague mind something mentioned), seems alright, take a bit getting used to, first impression is it feels more robust, which is a good thing.

Oh ffs. Even bloody harder to get back to overview.
Now we haven't even got a hamburger menu to return to it.
We used to have a button right at the bottom of the last post, but I understand that had to go as it was too easy.
Not wanting to be negative, but man, this is going backwards. 😐
I swear every new look we have gets rid of the ability to navigate easily back to overview. What have you got against it? 😂

Seriously, when we get to the bottom of a long page of posts, what then?
Hitting the back button doesn't refresh the posts on overview, and if you've gone through 5 pages, back through them all you go!
Scrolling all the way back up through all the posts on a page again to find a button on every single thread is just dire. 🙄

Liking the site homepage - both on iPhone and computer.

Forum though... argh, especially on the mobile. Nowhere near as easy to identify the thread titles with the info for each thread split across a couple of lines. Hopefully I'll get used to it.

Fine by me, no glitches so far. A bit retro with boxes around threads, it just needs the boxes to be coloured pink and blue to be properly retro. It's faster than the old version was last night (not difficult).

I'm not usually one to moan about STW, given that (for cheapskates like me) this shizzle is free, but that thread overview page is truly horrible to behold - both uglier and harder to actually see the thread titles. Looks like a forum from 20 years ago!

No. I know how the back button works. That's not the same thing.
The overview page doesn't refresh if you simply go back.
And what if you've gone through 5 pages of posts?

Yeah we could do with a few basics like a button to take you to the oldest unread post, or to the newest post. Or notifications of replies, and of course a like/thanks button.

But that's big software changes, not exactly just a new coat of paint.

If the forum could get anywhere near the polished level and features of the TrainerRoad forum, I'd be very very happy - but then I also quite like the old-fashionedness, and simpleness of this place...

It's a bit of a shock, but then all change is.

I miss the menu appearing as soon as you scrolled up a bit. I'm sure it did that an hour ago, now you need to scroll to the top of the page.

The Reply / Report links are very hard to read being black on a dark grey if you're on the dark theme.

Otherwise I quite like it.

I'm glad the Singletrack header doesn't move down the page anymore. It means people at work can't see what I'm reading all day. Still can't make dark mode work on a PC.

Way too much info on the phone screen. All I need is thread titles.

Well, I don't know what a lot of you are seeing but it looks really nice on both my work desktop & Moto phone. Very easy on the eye to scan through and read.
I like the way the banner at the top disappears as you scroll down the screen too, unlike the old one that was permanently stuck there taking up a 1/4 of the screen for no purpose.

Yup, like that I can see who started a thread and who last contributed, on the forum overview page. For avoiding <those> threads, obviously.

There's an overview tab at the top for me, so no worries.

All this new gubbins and still no button to take you to the last post on the thread

Clicking the last posters name used to do that (in the olden days, before last version of forum), now it takes you to the posters profile.

Other than that - click the >> next to thread title.

I don't think you're getting it.
The back button doesn't refresh the overview page so, even if you've been reading the thread for a day, the overview page will not have moved when you go back. You still have to tap Overview or hit refresh on your browser bar to make it refresh.

Also, if you've just read a multi page thread from start to end, the back button means you have to go through it all again, albeit backwards.

We had a button years ago at the end of the last post. It was perfect. It was improved away, and we got a hamburger menu that appears if you give the page a little scroll wiggle (on mobile) where you could navigate back.
This next improvement has taken everything away.

Hitting the back button is not the same thing. Very weird decision is all.

There’s an overview tab at the top for me, so no worries.

Yup, and to get to it on mobile, you've to do the flicky flicky finger thing, up and up and up, and it's there! Ace 😂

Also - the link to the most recent post is back (hurray!) but only if the thread has more than one page. It should be there for all, because muscle memory.

Front page is an improvement too - splitting out in to sections e.g. reviews split from news is good for me, instead of all together.

still no button to take you to the last post on the thread

Funny how mouse-clicks have become such an effort isn't it?! I stil complain about shit like this - but it does only take 2 clicks to get to the last post! Into the thread (or the >> ) and click the last poster's name. Bing bong.
1 click would be such a vast improvement! 😀

Change i dont mind, it'll take some getting used to but hey ho.

What did irk me was the maintenance being done at lunch time. I'd just sat down at my work desk looking forward to a catch up of the World that is Single Track, nope, not a chance. Surely dinner time on a work day is peak traffic time?
