The figure quoted on channel 4 news the other night was $2 million per vessel.
If they keep these charges (and why wouldn’t they?) once the Americans get bored and go home (give it a couple of weeks) and it’ll generate them just shy of quarter of a billion dollars a day.

To be fair I think the Israelis wanted to collapse the Iranian regime, regardless of whether or not it created a failed state with millions of refugees since those are always someone elses problem, but they are happy just leaving a mess for the entire world regardless.

I think it misses the point entirely.
It shows how incredibly adverse the US is to losing even a single individual. Up against the likes of Iran, that considers it's own citizens entirely expendable, it actually shows a fundamental weakness of the US military. Iran can sustain orders of magnitude of damage more than the US will ever begin to countenance. As long as they're is an Iranian regime to climb out of the rubble at the end, they 'win'. America can't beat that.

I recently read/listened to a book called "the revolutionists". Highly recommend about the peak of left wing terror groups and then how they got replaced by the Islamic focussed groups in the middle east. Right wing groups dont really get a look in due to the area concentrated on and time period and it was interesting from that aspect since I have never really understood quite why left wing terrorism seems to have faded away.
There was an section on Lebanon and how whilst Israeli violence sort of made sense if you looked at it tactically longer term it created a complete mess which has kept the violence in that region of the world ongoing.

Some were "successful" but this is where we get into history geekery which I happily admit I am subject to despite my shit gcse history teacher.
The Northern crusades were reasonably successful although for obvious reasons overlooked nowadays and the heretic crusades (something I expect hegseth the keg downer would love to repeat) were mixed but again overlooked beyond the "kill them all god will know his own" line.

The threats against Iran clearly involve war crimes. If the threat is carried out, it has to go to the Hague and warrants be issued. And all support for US bases needs to stop. Preventing aviation fuel into them would be a start.

Might be my blind optimism, but maybe if Starmer ended permission for the Americans to use their UK bases for this war, maybe, just maybe, it might bring someone in the US to their senses (not Trump, Vance or Hegseth, obviously) that things have gone too far and they need to take steps to remove Trump. The UK really needs to make it clear that we are having nothing more to do with this. If nothing else, it might score some more points for Starmer.

I've seen unconfirmed reports (Mirror online?) that we've told the US they can't use UK bases for these atracks if they happen, but can't see a proper statement.
The rumours were that the military command had matters in hand after January 6th, but most of those people are now gone. If the batshit moron issues the command to go nuclear, I would hope someone in the chain has the gumption to stop it.
I fear that if he just goes for your run of the mill war crime, the Iranians and the world will not be so lucky.
