I've got news for Trump. Most of our oil is already bought from the US and as near as damn it bugger all from the Middle East.

Given Trump's current penchant for sneering at the UK, I would not assume that he will allow that situation to continue. Cue more aggressive tariffs, embargos, pressure on US oil exporters, etc...

Spain, as part of the EU, does not appear to be getting the same treatment.

Can we get a groundswell of people to just respond "U OK HUN?" to all his posts?

Trump appears really upset. It's very likely the realisation his great mates kissing his @ss from UK, France, Spain and Italy were not really sincere or really his great mates after all.

Well I'm sold - the man was robbed of his peace prize last time (ok, he got the football one and the person who falsely got the novel one saw sense and handed it over. But it has the wrong name on so it hardly counts). Surely after the last few weeks there can only be one nobel peace prize winner for 2026. It's the biggest peace, the best peace. Literally no one has done peace this well ever everyone is saying.

Yes, standby for some tariff reaming I suspect "to pay for the war you were too chicken to join", because the UK economy could really do with a bit of that in addition to this world downturn he's given us already.

Given we have (I believe in error) allowed UK bases to be used and flown a shit ton on defensive airmiles we do seem to be getting some Trumpy special treatment.

It's small beer........but at what point does Chaz's jolly to Magaland get sacked off? You can't possibly send the old boy over there now surely to stand there as the orange baffoon rages and calls for a pox on the country he's head of state of. I'm no royalist, but even for me that would be cruel and unusual punishment.

Well, coincidentally, it was confirmed today as going ahead. Meanwhile Italy bars US from Sicily bases. It's only Starmer and Rutte standing with Trump now.

I'm hoping Charlie is going over to ceremonially present Trump with his international arrest warrant, the way Starmer presented that invite.

But Charles going over at all is an insult to the UK, and more especially the thousands of Iranian, Lebanese and Palestinian dead. I can't believe it is still going ahead. If I'd have known, I'd have had a word when we bumped into him at the Eden Project last week.

Though there now some fantastic Trump/Downfall bunker scenes going round on social media at the moment.

The King shouldn't be going. Our teams shouldn't be going to the World Cup. We shouldn't be going to the USA for work or pleasure.

The ones I've seen are not convincing - Trump/Hitler is altogether too measured and rational 🙂 No rambling about Sharpies, claims to have won the war, denials of knowledge of atrocities etc.

Has Hegseth not spotted this?

landing either a MEU or the 82nd parachuting onto Kharg would be a suicide mission, even if you could get them on there with minimal casualties (i don't think they could), keeping them supported and resupplied  there would be next to impossible and the civilian death toll would be inhumane

It's too insane, even for this bunch of madmen

It is humiliating to the country to continue to suck up to the US in this way, not having the backbone cancel the royal visit is just pathetic. It is basically like handing over your packed lunch to the school bully.

Have you seen Tiny Hegseths news conferences....... He is so pumped I think he would not even hesitate to send troops.

Hegseth has now gone full Dr Strangelove. He'll be absolutely gutted if he doesn't get to invade somewhere in the name of Jesus. The man is absolutely unhinged!

I think the King is more than capable of dealing with Trump and may even help with some diplomacy. It'll be a beautiful, beautiful visit!! Perhaps Charles could even lend him a proper posh sword to wave around! 🤣

Backing out would bring more problems than it solves.

I always thought the brilliance of that is regardless of the fact it's Hitler, you're watching a human being have a mental breakdown that ultimately results in their suicide and you empathize* with that.

Trump having a mental breakdown though would imply a level of cognition to descend from.

*not sympathize

This, it's very much his emperors new clothes moment.

Shame on the government not cancelling the King and Queen gig in the US.

Zack Polanski said it recently (in a different context), you have to have diplomatic relations with people and countries you don't like, but that doesn't mean you have to like or agree with them.

The invite should have been turned down quietly to passively not endorse Trump's actions.  But I suppose once it's been committed to then you're stuck with being diplomatic, otherwise it's more tantrums/sanctions/tariffs.

I really don't understand it either when both Spain and now Italy have been far more restrictive in their cooperation and permissions to use bases and airspace.

Obviously it's Trump though so there really is no logic to apply. I hope he comes to a terrifying and painful end very soon, and I don't think that's an unreasonable position to take given what he said about Robert Mueller the other week. I'll be wishing him RIP, (Reside in purgatory) when it happens.

It's part of a deliberate ploy to downplay the relevance of other countries and their armed forces, IMHO

What if, to use hypothetical examples, those madmen included one in clear cognitive decline and another who is an alcoholic believer in muscular Christianity?

On a side note Vance has re-emerged to, check notes, start publicising his new book about how he is a born again Roman Catholic. Hopefully it will have a couple of chapters about being personally slapped down by the current and previous pope. Personally I would be looking for a different denomination.

I mean, there is absolutely no rays of light on the horizon in this war. I can't see any glimmers of hope.

I see Brent Crude is back up to $120 a barrel also.

Extra UK troops to help defend Gulf against Iranian attacks, Healey announces

Extra UK troops are being sent to the Middle East to help the UK’s allies defend their skies from Iranian attacks.

Glad to see we are not being sucked into Trump's war. Ahem....

I seems like a desperate tactic by Trump and Hegseth, as they realised how royally they have ****ed up, to "shame" NATO countries into taking some action and when that doesn't work to declare the USA's job done and withdraw to let the rest of the world to sort out the fallout.

TBH I think the response is to not rise to the bait at all on the first point.  On the second point there is actually c30 nation (inc UK, France, Germany, Japan etc) joint commitment (from 19 March) to protect civilian shipping in the SoH but very much post hostilities.  Thinking that the US will leave this in any way resolved so an international coalition can do peacekeeping/policing is looking very hopeful at the moment

I want to see Camilla grab Trump by the Tena's and give him a mega wedgie (making wedgies great again) and Charlie bending down and teabaging him whilst shouting, 'Who's the king now, who's the king now!?'

This is indeed true and it's sad that we no longer seem to have politicians with much knowledge of diplomacy or the diplomatic service.

TBH I’m just waking up on the mornings and expecting some full on bat shit stuff on the news.

I’m not sure that fate would waste such a stellar cast of lunatics to not spring something interesting on us 🙁

Wasn't sure whether to mention it here or on the Trump thread, but The Poke has run a few pieces recently on Leavitts press conferences - sounds like some of the press corps are starting to try and ask some awkward questions

Don't get why Starmer is not more robust in his rebuttal of Trump's childish insults, can't imagine the wicked witch of Grantham putting up with that. Didn't she shout down Reagan a few times?

From the Beeb:

Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump says a deal with Iran is "irrelevant" and the US will leave when it is certain the regime cannot build a nuclear weapon "for years"

He really is getting ready to fudge off and leave the rest of the world to clean up his big middle eastern, man turd isn't he?

Yep

Arguably if he does this, Iran will be more powerful than before the war as they will have demonstrated even the world's most powerful military couldn't stop them closing the Strait of Hormuz and damaging the world economy should they so desire.

"...he's no Winston Churchill"

" I hope that one day Mr Trump will become more like JFK or Abraham Lincoln" would be a suitably diplomatic reply?

What's the old quote? Never wrestle with a pig. You both get covered in shit, but the pig enjoys it

There's little to be gained from getting into a public spat with someone with the mindset of an angry toddler. Like a lot of people, I think Starmer has played this about as well as he could.

I'm sure there will be further abuse aimed at Starmer and the rest of Europe as the man-baby jettisons his toys from the pram.

In the meantime, god only knows what he'll do next. Apparently he's bored of playing war now, as its threatening to get in the way of his golfing

I see there has been another successful manipulation of the oil price.

What faith do oil traders have in the words of these nutters that most serious political analysis suggests are total fantasy? Markets once again utterly detached from reality.

Oil traders have no faith, but they do like money, so if there is a way to manipulate the price and make a killing, they will. Welcome to late stage capitalism: Never let a good crisis go to waste.

As is Trump, I can't imagine that this war will make the Federal Reserve want to cut rates, and Trump has already had several outbursts on Truth Social about it. Last time only a few days before launching a war

It's as if he only makes decisions based on very short term thinking...who'd have guessed?

I said this from the start, I reckon the USA will find a few passenger airliners flying through skyscrapers again or something similar before long. If Trump thinks he can just walk away from this without repercussions he is even more stupid and delusional than I thought. (which is probably true)
