We will be in touch
Currently having a sense of humor failure with my Mac and iPod Touch.
When I first configured the Touch I set iTunes to auto sync the whole music library. It has worked perfectly well for the last few weeks but today after adding some more CDs it refuses to sync.
iTunes help seems no help whatsoever, the screens and menus it describes seem to have no equivalent in my version of iTunes which I have checked is the latest.
I can only find an option in iTunes preferences that looks like it disables auto sync. That was set correctly, also tried ticking that and seeing if it could manually sync but no luck there either.
This all happened when I was trying to sync an App I had just downloaded. I thought the App would sync automatically but it looks like it doesn't couldn't get that to go across to the Touch either.
WTF am I doing wrong? I thought these Macs were easy to use!! Windows help at least seems to lay things out fairly prescriptively when you find the relevant pages.
Yours very f*****g frustrated
Gary
it 'should' sync the app, as always. have you tried erm, turning both off and on again? works for the navy...then turn sync back on. oh, if that fails reset your permissions and try again
I had tried turning the iPod on and off - but not the Mac. It is a Mac after all!. Have now tried turning everything off and starting again - but it is still not syncing.
iTunes recognizes the device, and iTunes and the iPod start up when you insert the USB cable to the Mac.
By Permissions I assume you just mean iTunes - Preferences - Devices.
Judging by the Apple Support site you should be able to say auto sync Music but not Photos - although it is not immediately clear how you could do this.
resetting the permissions relates to the whole machine. not the one you refer to in i tunes. an app called yasu can make it easy to do (it's free too) have you tried resetting the touch? press and hold on/off switch and the home button at the same time (hold both for a few seconds)
Have you exceeded the capacity of the touch?

Ha Ha Ha .... no only put about 8 albums on it to date which makes it even more frustrating.
Looking at one of the apple tutorials it would appear that somehow iTunes is not properly recognizing the iPod as a device.
I hvve re-built the music library but to no avail. I think the next step according to the apple site is to un-install iTunes and re-download and install. According to apple that is the last resort.
A job for tomorrow.
When you plug in your iPod, you should see it listed on LHS of iTunes under devices if iTunes is correctly seeing it. Click on your iPod in the list and you will see all of the info with tabs for all of the different settings. Tick boxes to set your preferred settings.
find /Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist file copy and paste it to the desktop, start itunes and see where that takes you (itunes should create a new one-but you will have to put in your options again) if it works, delete the desktop plist, if not, go back to delete plist at /Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist and replace it with the one from the desktop. the plist file is a 'preferences' file, you can look at the contents with text editor. good luck
tegski - The iPod appears in the list of devices, but when I click on it the info with all the tabs does not appear in the main screen which it what the online tutorials show.
tumnurkoz - I will try that. I am new to Mac so not quite as comfortable with faffing about with these files as on a PC but slowly getting there.
Thanks
Gary
Thanks everyone - I now seem to be sorted. Removing the preferences file and starting again seems to have done the trick.
Gary
brilliant!
Prefs is one of those things that can go hinky for no apparent reason. Should have thought of that myself, but I haven't had a prefs problem for ages, it's not so much an issue with OS X whereas OS9 needed prefs rebuilds every few months. Glad you got it sorted.
