Never done it myself but I understand its fairly easy and there are lots of vids on youtube showing how to do it.
fairly easy if you're not afraid of it - if you buy replacement glass make sure you buy one with a new digitizer as this makes the repair much easier.
I did mine on my 3G in about half an hour, but the glass itself hadn't broken on mine just the touch sensitivity had failed.
