My old ipad is dead, and I am looking at replacing it, and I am considering the ms surface instead. I found that quite a few of the apps I used on the ipad were really optimised for the iphone, and didn't scale that well to the ipad, and with an even bigger screen I suspect I would prefer just normal windows versions of apps and browsers.
Interested in seeing if anyone had had both devices for comparison, and how the surface works with zwift, there seems to be conflicting reports on zwift performance.
I tried Zwift the other day and I got a small window in the middle of the screen on Windows - pretty shite experience. On my Android phone the entire UI was too tiny to see never mind operate.
It can't be this badly made surely?
This https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B017UANA5Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title Surface Pro 4 runs Zwift ok for me, not all bells and whistles, but perfectly useable with USB 3m cable and an ANT+ dongle.
When it's in use already, I can make do on my Xiaomi Mi A2 6" mobile cradled in a holder on the bars, but it's not quite the same!
Big telly if you're zwifting and just your phone will be fine.
I have a surface pro4 but not tried it with zwift. Knowing the device, it will work awesomely for 90% of the time, and be completely unusable the other 10. The other 10 being when you most need it, like the closing sprint in an hour race that you've worked your balloches off for.
Have an iPad Pro that was bought to use Zwift (amongst a few other things).
It works fine, it quick and connects to all my Bluetooth accessories fine. Not sure what would happen if any were Ant+.
Battery is good, so you can use wireless for long sessions.
Did a session with my newish i5 laptop and sort of wished I'd not bothered with the iPad to be honest.
All accessories connected to laptop fine. The PC version of the interface is slightly better looking. Better presentation of data, route and map in particular.
I missed the touch screen, but with a Surface, you'll have that, so my own view is go with Windows.
I bought the iPad second hand, so insulated myself a bit from some of the cost, but would have been disappointed if I'd paid full price for the Pro as a Zwift interface. Reckon a cheaper, 'normal' iPad would be as good.

I have it full screen on Windows. Did you go into the game, or just had the start-up screen (which is a small window in the middle of the screen)?
I've used it on an Android phone in the gym, but it's not ideal.

You can set the game to fullscreen or windowed in the settings. Are you sure you weren't just looking at the loading / updating screen? You don't mention whether you actually got the game to load.
I'm running it on my Huawei laptop, looks much prettier than when it runs on my iPad Pro and more importantly, isn't letterboxed on a TV screen.
Ah yes it was the start screen that was small, and it went big when I started.
It still crashed several times and was generally a PITA though. But they all seem to be ropey.
Im running zwift on a 4K Apple TV (amazon open box discounted - most definitely not opened), I’ve used iPad Pro,Mac desktop and a windows laptop and this seems to be the most hassle free large screen solution.
You’ll probably get better graphics on a good pc but tbh with sweat in your eyes it all looks the same.
I'm using a 9 year old Macbook Pro, it's able to run in 1080p on an external monitor, occasionally get graphics tearing, but rare nowadays so not sure if it was a Zwift problem or the gpu coupdn't handle it.
Tempted by an ipad pro - but all my sensors are Ant so dunno...
