I bought an ipad from my friend brand new (she got it free) I put my tesco SIM in and it was not recognised is it already locked to orange? How can I tell? I thought it was locked to the SIM you inserted.

Will jail breaking it unlock it?

Can you download whatsapp for ipad as I could not find it, does it need a SIM for this app.

Any good app recommendations?

Not sure about locking as mine is wifi only.

Apps I can help with though:

- The Sustrans Cycle Map is quite useful
- MyFitnessPal gets used a lot on mine at the mo (trying to lose weight)
- usual media stuff: BBC News, iPlayer, ITV Player, 4OD, Demand Five
- AcePlayer is useful for streaming movies from your PC etc
- Reeder is my go to app for RSS feeds (syncs to Google Reader)
- FlipBoard turns feeds and social stuff into a magazine. Quite impressive.
- Newspaper subscriptions for whatever papers you read. They get downloaded automatically while charging, so the latest one is sitting in Newstand for you each morning.

And games obviously: Infinity Blade (I & II), Pirates, and Draw Something all get played frequently on mine. (As does various Peppa Pig and Little Fox games, just not by me 🙂 )

Should be. Even if there isn't an iPad specific version, all iPhone apps also work on the iPad.

I thought it was locked to the SIM you inserted.

It's locked to whatever network is was purchased/came from I imagine.
If bought direct from apple, it should not be locked to any network.

I'd second the "locked to Orange" prognosis.

Must be a way of unlocking it though, tried a mobile phone shop to get it unlocked?

And if you buy them from Apple they are unlocked (i got mine from Apple and could choose provider or just take a sim from anyone)

You can get cheap sim packages from Orange you know.
